Sign roundabout rules of the road. Turns and lanes in roundabouts

Driving on a busy highway constantly threatens with unpleasant situations and a high probability of getting into. The probability of colliding with other cars grows several times more if the driver does not know the rules well traffic and it is difficult to navigate when crossing intersections where roundabouts are accepted. Such sections of the road are quite dangerous, since different traffic rules may apply at similar intersections, which will be determined by the corresponding signs and markings. We will try to tell about all this in as much detail as possible in today's article.

What is meant by an intersection where there is a roundabout?

Every driver knows perfectly well what an intersection is - it is a perpendicular intersection of two roads. But what is the difference between an intersection with a roundabout? In this case, there is no literal intersection of roads, since in the middle of the roundabout there is necessarily a circular piece of land around which cars move counterclockwise (acceptable for countries where right-hand traffic is accepted; it is logical that in left-hand traffic, the direction of movement of cars will be carried out in opposite side, clockwise).

Cars make a circular motion in order to leave this section of the road. At the same time, roundabouts are very difficult for drivers, since on such sections of roads there is no regulation or traffic lights at all. How to understand in which direction and who should move? In this case, road signs and come to the rescue, which are mandatory attributes of difficult sections of roads.

It is also worth noting that the entrance to the intersection, where there is a roundabout, does not provide for the inclusion of turn signals. The need for them arises only in cases where the driver wants to maneuver on the road itself, changing lanes from one lane to another, or is going to leave such an intersection.

As for road signs, then, according to the SDA, a few meters before the intersection where there is a roundabout, sign 4.10 “Roundabout” must be installed with the image of arrows, the direction of which coincides with the direction of movement on a specific section of the road. In some cases, along with this sign on the pole, you can see the “Give way” sign, which helps drivers to navigate the priority of movement while crossing a roundabout.

How to properly exit at an intersection where there is a roundabout?

In order to avoid colliding with other vehicles when entering a roundabout, it is very important to choose the right lane for traffic. In this matter, the determining factor is the direction from which the driver enters the "ring".

Access to such an intersection is allowed from any lane of the adjacent road. However, if right at the intersection you need to maneuver to the right or go straight, then, according to the safety rules and traffic rules, it would be more rational to choose the right lane, thanks to which you can easily leave the intersection where traffic is carried out in a circle.

In the same case, if when crossing an intersection where there is a roundabout, you need to maneuver to the left, then it would be more rational to move along the left lane, thereby not stopping the movement of all other cars that move on the right. It is also more rational to move along the left lane for those drivers who, when entering the “ring”, just want to turn around and leave it in the opposite direction.

But usually at intersections with traffic in a circle there is also a central lane. It is intended for drivers who need to drive in a straight line, that is, not turn off their main direction.

But on this, all the requirements and rules for driving a car along the “ring” do not end there. In particular, it is most important when carrying out such a maneuver to carefully look out for and correctly interpret the meaning of road signs that will indicate the priority of traffic at the intersection.

If there is a “Roundabout” sign at the entrance to the intersection, then this will mean that the road going around the circle is the main one, while all other directions are secondary. However, this rule does not apply in all permissible cases, and when crossing such an intersection, it is most important to observe the distribution of lanes that we described above, and also be sure to let all pedestrians pass. How exactly to behave when moving such an intersection, we will describe below.

How is the traffic at the intersection, where there is a roundabout?

If you are entering an intersection and you need to maneuver to the right, then for this you will definitely need to slow down, turn on the appropriate signal to turn right and into the rightmost lane.

But when making such a turn, it is very important to make sure that all other drivers give way to you and that there are no obstacles in your way. The implementation of such an exit and movement directly on the right lane will guarantee you that neither you will become an obstacle to other traffic participants, nor will you be cut off when crossing the intersection.

But if you need to make a left turn, you definitely need to change lanes to the left lane, as we said above. But it is not so easy to deal with traffic at such an intersection if there are only two lanes. In this case, to make a left turn, you must first take the left lane, and then gradually change to the right lane. Again, it is worth remembering the turn signals, thanks to which you will signal to other road users that you want to turn off the road.

Similarly, it is necessary to act when driving along a three-lane intersection, however, in this case, the driver will need to perform a maneuver with restructuring into the right lane twice. This must be done with extreme caution so as not to collide with other vehicles.

Special attention should also be paid to traffic at the intersection, where there is a roundabout, in that situation, if you just need to pass it and continue straight ahead. In this case, it is necessary to focus on the number of roads that adjoin this intersection, since this is what will affect the further actions of the driver.

If there are many adjoining roads, then it is more expedient to first take the left or middle lane, and only after that change lanes to the last one to exit the circle. If the intersection consists of only two roads that cross each other, then in this case the driver can immediately take the rightmost lane. At the same time, it is necessary to carefully monitor other cars that will try to enter the intersection.

Moving along an intersection where there is a roundabout, you need to look at other signs that can determine a completely different order of movement. A hint for you will, of course, be road markings and signs.

Crossroads with equivalent intersection: how to choose a lane and prioritize

In this case, before the intersection you will see one single sign 4.10 "Roundabout". But if, having entered the intersection, you see sign 5.18, which indicates the direction of the lane, or special markings with broken lines and short strokes (1.7) and special direction indicators at the intersection (1.18), then while crossing such an intersection, it is important to navigate exactly these hints.

In addition, when driving at such an intersection, each driver must be attentive to the obstacle on the right. If you have already entered an intersection with a roundabout and are approaching a place where another road adjoins it, you must definitely give way to all vehicles entering the intersection.

In the same case, if you are driving at a roundabout, in front of which, in addition to the “Roundabout”, there is also a “Give way” sign (but there is no sign of the main road), this will mean that the main road passes exclusively along circle, and all the rest are secondary. In this case, when crossing the roundabout, you can forget about the obstacle on the right, since now you must give way exclusively to you.

What is the difficulty for drivers at intersections with unequal intersections?

We are talking about roundabouts, in front of which there is not only the designation of the main road, but also the sign of the main road. In addition, before entering such an intersection from the side of a secondary road, you will definitely see a “Give way” sign.

In order not to become the culprit of an accident when driving at such an intersection, it is necessary to clearly determine exactly where the main road lies. If you are moving along such, then you can not worry about the need to skip the obstacle on the right. If you are entering the intersection from a secondary road, then before entering the main one you will need to give way to all participants who are already moving along it.

If, according to the traffic rules, when entering an intersection where there is a roundabout, you need to take the rightmost lane, then for traffic safety you should adhere to the following rules:

1. Despite the fact that the right lane is the longest on the "ring", drivers usually manage to leave it the fastest. This happens for the reason that usually you don’t have to change lanes from the right lane several times to the left and back.

2. Having taken the right lane, do not rush to put pressure on the gas, because you need to look very carefully at whether your lane is the main one and whether there is a need to let all other traffic participants pass. Do not forget that unregulated pedestrian crossings may also be present at roundabouts. In addition, when leaving such an intersection, be sure to turn on the appropriate dimensions.

3. Circular traffic is very often organized around large areas. In this case, the rightmost lane can be occupied by parked cars, which can scare a novice driver quite a lot. But in such a situation, it is worth acting as calmly as possible, slow down and, if necessary, change lanes to the left in order to bypass parked cars.

4. Although roundabouts are often unregulated, traffic lights can often be installed near them in large cities. In this case, you must forget about all the above rules and focus solely on traffic lights. When driving through an intersection, carefully look at each traffic light you meet, as well as its additional sections, if any. At the same time, if the traffic light turns red, then keep in mind that the stop must be made not just anywhere, but in front of a special line.

How to exit the roundabout correctly and safely?

When leaving the intersection, which has a roundabout, it is also necessary to follow certain traffic rules, otherwise you risk getting into an emergency. The following rules will help you in this matter:

1. You can leave the intersection where there is a roundabout only if you are on the right lane, so while driving at this kind of intersection, try to change lanes in a timely manner.

2. If necessary, make a left turn while driving at a roundabout with big amount lanes, the driver must advance to the leftmost lane. This rule should also be followed if there are only two lanes. In such a situation, the driver can drive along the left lane even all three exits, while before the fourth one he needs, he must carefully change lanes to the far right and leave the intersection. If there are three lanes at the intersection, then the driver needs to change lanes to the far right lane twice.

3. When changing from one lane to another, be very careful about cars that are moving on the right side and do not forget about the need to turn on the appropriate signals on your car.
4. At the roundabout, it is also allowed to overtake cars that are moving in other lanes. Just do it as carefully as possible.

5. You can stop at the intersection no closer than 5 meters to the place where the intersection merges with the main road.

But even if you are driving in the correct lane, have correctly turned on all the dimensions and have learned well which road at the intersection is considered the main one and which is the secondary one, be prepared for the fact that not all traffic participants will be so careful while crossing the roundabout. In order to prevent an unpleasant situation, try to move as quickly as possible and not change lanes from lane to lane once again. After all, traffic safety on such a stretch of road depends solely on you.

What you need to pay attention to when driving roundabouts according to the new traffic rules? Who will be right and who is to blame in an accident on the circle? And why the circle is different.

We are sure that many motorists have heard and know that from November 8, new rules for driving roundabouts came into effect. The passage of the circle is fixed by a decree of the Government of the Russian Federation and states that drivers approaching the roundabout are required to give way to cars that are already moving at the roundabout.

If you have not heard about this yet, you can familiarize yourself with these rules on the pages of our Internet edition of the site:

On paper, everything looks good. What motorists have been waiting for a long time has finally happened. However, reality itself cannot be immediately changed with one stroke of the pen, and most importantly, it is impossible to change the habit of motorists who have been passing such specific intersections for years using a completely different algorithm.

Observing the Brownian motion at such intersections, we came to the conclusion that, in our opinion, it only intensified to a certain extent. This is a normal reaction for the transition period, which by the way can last a year or more. It is necessary to know certain nuances in order not to get into an unpleasant situation, which can lead to an incorrect interpretation of this innovation in the rules of the road.

First, you first need to decide on the types of roundabouts. In total, there are two types of them: these are equivalent and unequal intersections. What is their fundamental difference? Let's consider everything in more detail.

Equivalent roundabout

If you drive up to the circle you see such a sign ( Sign 4.3),

then this means that you are entering an equivalent intersection. Changes in the rules from November 8 just govern the passage of these intersections. Therefore, if approaching the intersection you see only sign 4.3, then the algorithm of your actions in this case will be as follows:

YOU GIVE ROAD TO CARS THAT ARE MOVING IN A CIRCLE.

As soon as you are on the circle itself, then you are required to let all cars entering the intersection already pass.

The main thing is that you must remember this and this moment learn by heart.

Uneven roundabout

This type of intersections, like the previous one, has not gone away and it is unlikely that it will ever be completely abolished. Local traffic police authorities, at their discretion, in addition to sign 4.3 indicating a circle, sometimes set priority signs:

Sign 2.1 "Main Road"

Sign 2.4 "Give way"

This is dictated by the organization of traffic on the ground.

It is precisely in these intersections that the greatest danger for motorists lurks. One gets the feeling that some drivers, having inattentively familiarized themselves with the updated traffic rules, decided for themselves that the above signs are no longer valid, they say they have not had time to remove them yet, they begin to drive in a circle ahead and thus create emergency situations. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT THIS! SIGNS WORK! New roundabout rules here Not spread. Everything remains the same. Let's remind everyone again.

The following paragraphs of the rules govern the passage of such intersections:

13.9. At the intersection of unequal roads, the driver of a vehicle moving along a secondary road must give way to vehicles approaching along the main road, regardless of the direction of their further movement.

13.10. In the case when the main road changes direction at an intersection, drivers moving along the main road must be guided by the rules for passing the intersections of equivalent roads. The same rules should be followed by drivers moving on secondary roads.

Thus, it must be remembered that when approaching the intersection from the side of the “Give way” sign, it is necessary to give way to cars located on the main road accordingly. If the circle or part of the circle is a main road and it intersects with another main road that is adjacent to the circle, then the driver must follow the rule of interference from the right, i.e. give way to the vehicle with the right of way.

This is the second important rule you need to know.

What should you do to avoid getting into an accident at the intersection?

Pay close attention to posted signs and be vigilant. Even having the right of way in the passage and seeing that the other participant in the movement is not going to give way to you, it is better to let him through, perhaps he has not yet heard about the innovation or just got confused on the road.

Penalty for breaking a circle

Penalty for not providing benefit on roundabout in accordance with Article 12.13,- failure to comply with the requirement of the Rules of the Road to give way to a vehicle that enjoys the right of way at intersections, is 1.000 rubles.

Please do not forget about some other opportunities to get fined. They are of course less common, but cause no less damage to the wallet:

Movement on the "oncoming", against the movement in a circle - 5.000 rubles or deprivation of a driver's license for 4 - 6 months.

Violation of the requirements of signs or markings when driving in a circle - a warning or a fine 500 rubles.

Quite often, drivers violate traffic rules, and one of the most common is the incorrect turn on of the turn signal at the moment of entering the ring.

Some drivers do not know which turn signal to turn on at the entrance, which leaves after this violation not only fines, but also terrible, and even fatal accidents. This article will detail which turn signals to turn on is considered correct, how to avoid getting a fine, and how to enter a roundabout correctly.

What is an intersection?

So, before writing about which turn signal you need to use according to the traffic rules on the ring, you should first, in fact, figure out what this is.

This intersection can be characterized as an area of the route in the form of a certain island, where the traffic does not go in a clockwise direction. Especially this principle of movement applies to those roads where driving on the right side is a priority. If the route implies a left-hand movement of vehicles, then the principle will be the opposite, that is, clockwise.

As soon as the driver passes this area, he gets to this intersection. It is worth remembering that they cannot have any adjustment, that is, the driver must be extremely careful, since there are no traffic lights, no signs, no inspectors who could guide car owners in the right direction. Therefore, a person needs to be careful so as not to receive a huge fine for violating one of the traffic rules.

So what should be done to avoid accidents?

  • First, you need to remember that in this case the main driver is the driver who moves in a circle, that is, this means that the one who only wants to enter it must give way to the one who is already in the circle.
  • Secondly, at the beginning of the movement there is no need to turn on the turn signals.
  • In this situation, the question of which turn signals need to be used disappears. They should be turned on only when the driver has an intention to change lanes from his lane to another.

Important: it is worth remembering that some signs at these intersections are still provided for by traffic rules:

  • The first sign is called "roundabout";
  • and the second is "Give way".

However, if the second sign is not observed, then the driver is still obliged to give way before entering the roundabout.

Which lane should you enter?

A huge role in such cases is played by the fact from which lane the owner of the car ended up at the intersection. The established rules say that there is not much difference from which lane the driver ended up on it, the only important thing is that after he completes his movement, he should decide where he will go next: right or left. If he then needs to continue on the right side or straight ahead, then he should turn, in fact, to the right. And similarly: if he then needs to turn left, then he should occupy the left lane. All the same should be done to drivers moving in the opposite direction. It is allowed to drive in the center if the subsequent movement will be, respectively, in the center. If the driver did everything as written, then he will not have to pay a fine.

Important: the rules state that the ring should be passed through some installations in order to avoid accidents. The circle is the main road, respectively, the other is not the main one. During the journey, the driver must not move out of his lane. If the driver leaves it, it will not only interfere with others, but also increase the likelihood of an accident.

Roundabout turns

So, you should consider all the turns that can be made during the journey along this intersection, and also consider which turn signals are turned on in all three cases.

Turn signal when turning right

If the driver intends to turn right, then he should slow down, turn on the turn signal and, therefore, change lanes to the far right. As soon as he approaches the ring, the driver behind the wheel, first of all, needs to carefully study the situation on the road: before entering, see if they let him through or not. With such vigilance, he will not become the main cause of the accident and will not interfere with other drivers who also need to enter this intersection.

When maneuvering to the left

Almost the same thing needs to be done if the driver wants to turn left. He needs to change lanes in advance to the left lane when the necessary turn signal is turned on. If there are not one, not two, but several lanes on the highway, then the owner of the car must continue to travel in the leftmost lane. If the track consists of only 2 lanes, then all maneuvers must be performed from the left lane. As soon as the first / second exits are behind, the owner is rebuilt in the right lane.

The most important thing is that such actions should be performed only with correctly turned on turn signals.

Often there are tracks that have as many as three lanes, which creates some difficulty in driving (especially for novice drivers). However, do not be afraid of three rows, because, in fact, the drivers need to perform almost the same maneuvers. But there is still one caveat. In this situation, the owner of the car is rebuilt twice in the right lane. It is extremely carefully necessary to do this, having previously considered what kind of traffic is on the road, and at what moment it is better to do this.

Important: what was scheduled will only help if the order of movement is standard. The main thing is to understand who is the main one on the road and who is not, and special signs and markings will help with this.

If you need to move straight

Well, and the last case: if the driver continues to move straight ahead.

The driver must be prepared for the fact that the roundabout will consist of several adjoining routes. And it is this fact that will be decisive in further actions. For example, if more than 2 lanes adjoin, then the driver should move along the central one. If there are only two of them, then you will have to navigate by the moment that will prevail on the track.

If the movement is made on the main road, then before you take any action, you should assess the situation several times, that is, understand if they pass or not. If the transport is on the road that is not the main one, then it will have to let everyone through.

It is also worth noting that, in principle, it is allowed to drive in the right lane (of course, if the owner of the car further intends to drive in the center), but this fact will only make traffic more difficult if, for example, a person who was driving in the central lane wants to turn right. Therefore, it is recommended to drive in this case in the middle row.

Important: before you get to the intersection, the driver undertakes to give way to pedestrians.

Departure

Worth remembering the most important rule: you can enter the ring from any lane, but you will only leave from the right. including the turn signal. But before that, the driver will again have to let the traffic participants who are moving on the right.

Possible punishments

The article mentioned more than once that violators receive fines for incorrect movement on this area of the road. The amount of the penalty will depend on what exactly the driver did on the road. If, for example, the driver drove the wrong traffic light (in some places they are available), then he will have to fork out a thousand rubles. If after some time he committed the same violation, then the amount will be multiplied five times, that is, he will give back 5000.

But in addition to monetary sanctions, a negligent driver can be deprived of their rights for six months. Therefore, it is better to really soberly assess the situation on such sections of the route, and then perform various maneuvers.

Conclusion

So, in this article, many points were considered regarding how to use the turn signal, which one to turn on in different situations on the ring. First of all, the question was analyzed in detail: is it necessary to turn on the turn signals at all? Yes, if you want to turn from one lane to another. Otherwise, an accident cannot be avoided.

Compliance with the rules of behavior on the road is a guarantee of your own safety: the driver must know the algorithm of his actions in a particular situation. So, when crossing a roundabout, it is important to carefully choose a lane and correctly exit this section of the highway. By adhering to a regulated procedure, you can avoid an accident and not become a hindrance to others.

Definition and scheme of movement in a circle

Roundabout at the intersection means the movement of vehicles around the central island counterclockwise (for the principle of traffic organization adopted in Russia - on the right). In states with a left lane priority at such an intersection, the flow of cars tends in a different direction - clockwise.

Being on the ring, the driver obeys the rules for passing interchanges with movement in a circle. One of their features is the lack of regulation: there are no traffic lights or traffic controllers. Those who move in a circle have priority right of way, other motorists are obliged to give way to them. There is no mandatory use of turn signals, only for cases of rebuilding from one lane to another.

Advantages and disadvantages

Walking has a number of advantages:

  • movement priority for those who are already moving in a circle;
  • high throughput;
  • lack of regulation;
  • Overtaking and stopping are allowed.

However, as traffic increases, roundabouts become an obstacle, another source of congestion. Since the exit is allowed only from the extreme right lane, it will be necessary to perform additional maneuvers to change lanes from lane to lane, which increases the likelihood of accidents if the driver does not adequately assess the traffic situation.

Notation

Sign 4.3 allows movement only in the direction shown on the sign, while the first turn must be only to the right, a U-turn is prohibited

Sign 4.3 is used to indicate the beginning of a roundabout, which schematically displays the upcoming maneuvers of drivers. The outer diameter of the circle is separated from the adjoining streets by dash markings with thicker lines than those that serve to separate the lanes inside the ring.

SDA 2018

Changes made to the Rules of the Road at the end of 2017 continue to be valid in 2018: the roundabout is a priority and is equated to traffic on the main road. Whereas before they were guided by the “right hand rule”, letting those who entered the intersection pass.

Ring traffic does not require additional adjustment, but in places of heavy traffic at the entrance to such an intersection, a traffic light can be installed. In this case, you should be guided by traffic lights, ignoring the signs that prescribe priority.

Road signs

Since November 2017, sign 4.3 has been supplemented by sign 2.4 “Give way”, once again reminding that the circle is a priority, and everyone entering it from adjacent streets must let the flow of cars moving along the ring pass.

Give way sign is not only used in roundabouts

Roundabout entrance

The rules of the road allow you to enter the circle from any lane adjacent to it. However, the optimal choice of the entry lane (to reduce the number of lane change maneuvers) depends on the further movement of the vehicle:

  • exit to the right implies arrival from the right lane;
  • for rectilinear movement, it is more reasonable to choose the central lane;
  • exit to the left and a U-turn are more convenient to perform by entering the ring from the left lane.

Departure

In order to avoid emergency situations, it is necessary to turn on the turn signals so that other road users know about your future maneuvers

Entry is allowed from any lane, while the exit is only from the extreme right position. Therefore, in front of the exit point, it is necessary to perform a rebuilding maneuver in the desired lane in advance, passing passing vehicles on the right side. At roundabouts with a heavy exit to the right, special right-hand lanes can be equipped that allow you to maneuver without entering such an intersection.

The exit algorithm includes the following procedure:

  1. Turn on the light pointer on the right.
  2. Skip the cars to change lanes to the far right lane.
  3. Merge into the rightmost lane of the adjoining road.

Turning on turn signals

You can also get a fine for not turning on the turn signal.

Performing maneuvers requires the obligatory signaling of the corresponding turn signal, and in case of its malfunction, by hand. When driving on a roundabout, there is no need to turn on the turn signal every time you cross the axis of an adjacent road. The rules oblige the driver to indicate only maneuvers for rebuilding from row to row for ease of movement and the proposed exit on one of the sections of the ring.

So, turn indicators include:

  • entering a roundabout;
  • leaving her;
  • moving around inside the circle.

Other nuances

In yards, to limit the intensity of traffic, mini-ring lanes with an island diameter of no more than 18 meters can be organized. As a rule, the speed of cars in such areas does not exceed 30 km / h. However, in this case, they must also be marked with sign 4.3, if this sign is not present, then the order of movement in such yards is governed by the general instructions of the traffic rules: skipping an obstacle on the right, moving along the right lane, etc.

To make a U-turn, the driver needs to enter the ring, drive a full circle and leave it, observing all the rules for driving roundabouts. A U-turn before the ring (without a check-in) will be interpreted by the traffic police inspector as an exit into the oncoming lane.

One of the features of the roundabout is the permission to overtake, subject to all the conditions for performing this maneuver. It is also allowed to stop at a distance of 5 meters from the confluence of the ring and the adjacent road.

Penalties for violation of roundabout rules

Depending on the severity of the violation, you can get a fine or lose the right to drive a vehicle for a while

Failure to comply with the rules of the ring traffic threatens the driver with a fine, and in some cases you can become a pedestrian for a period of six months or more.

So, at the entrance to the roundabout, traffic lights can be installed. Checking the ring at a red light is fraught with a fine of one thousand rubles, and in case of a repeated offense, administrative law provides for either a fivefold increase in the amount of the fine, or deprivation of the right to drive up to six months. What will be rendered to the driver in a particular situation - the court decides.

If, when entering the interchange, the driver did not give way to cars already moving along the ring, then the traffic police inspector has full right to fine him 1000 rubles. Driving through an intersection is not counterclockwise, but in the direction of its movement or directly is regarded as an exit into the oncoming lane and threatens to turn the driver into a pedestrian for more than one year.

Stopping closer than 5 meters from the intersection of the axes of such intersections is the reason for the collection of a fine of 500 rubles. The same amount threatens a forgetful driver who has not given a turn signal, or who has left the ring outside of the rightmost lane.

A roundabout makes the driver concentrate as much as possible on the approach to such a section of the road. A well-chosen lane for entry will reduce to a minimum maneuvers for rebuilding, which reduces the likelihood of an emergency on the road. An objective assessment of the state of the traffic flow and the management of the rules is the key to prompt and unhindered passage along the ring.

The vast majority of motorists drive around the circle several times a day and, by and large, do not think about whether they are doing it right. But more than 90% of drivers move around the ring in violation of traffic rules. And this is despite the fact that most of the drivers have a significant driving experience.

Unfortunately, most motorists either simply do not know the rules for driving at roundabouts, or simply ignore them. However, this should not be surprising, since the traffic rules still no separate item, which would explain in detail to drivers how to move along such an intersection correctly.

Traffic experts will point to Rule 13.9, but he only talks about entering the ring in just two cases: the circle is the main road and the secondary one. This paragraph does not describe roundabouts. The rules for driving a circle, in general, are not described anywhere. And paragraph 13.9 teaches drivers to only look at the signs when everywhere on the ring.

If there are signs 4.3 and 2.4, then the ring traffic will be the main one. When only sign 4.3 is present, the circle will be secondary and drivers entering it will have priority. Drivers driving in circles will have to give way to those entering, since those are the hindrance on the right.

Pay attention again for the presence of priority signs. If they are not there, then those who enter the ring have an advantage, and not those who leave it.

At one time, amendments to the rules for driving roundabouts brought confusion to the heads of drivers. Among motorists, the opinion has spread that the circle is always the main one. This has led to many accidents. Proper circular motion involves taking into account signs.

Driving through a roundabout begins at the entrance to the roundabout. And here, novice drivers have the most questions. Why? Because in most driving schools, the teaching staff has driving experience since the days of the USSR.

The old rules for driving roundabouts required drivers to keep the left lane when entering. Accordingly, teachers teach future drivers to do the same. But the rules have long since changed.

In the modern rules of the road there is clause 8.5, which requires drivers when turning right or left, as well as when turning, take an extreme position on the road taking into account the side of the turn. An exception is the passage of a roundabout. That is, today the driver has the right to enter the circle in any lane.

At the same time, the motorist should not forget that if he drove from the right lane to the ring, then you need to take it on the ring traffic right lane. Entered from the left lane - occupy the left inner lane.

And also, when choosing a lane for entering the ring, it is useful to remember the exit. Let's take a classic three-lane roundabout as an example. When the driver needs to take the first exit, it is reasonable to choose the right lane. If you need a second exit, then it is better to choose the middle lane. And in order to use the third exit, choose the left lane on the circle.

This choice of lanes of entry to roundabouts reduces the number of traffic jams. However, according to the traffic rules, nothing prevents the driver from riding on any of the selected lanes.

In the dry residue we have:

  • you can start moving in a circle from any of the lanes;
  • you need to start moving along the ring in the same lane along which the entrance to the ring was made;
  • the choice should be made taking into account the desired exit.

Turn signals at the entrance to the circle and movement on it

Very often, approaching a roundabout, you can see an amazing picture: the vast majority of cars are standing with the right turn signal on, and only a few with the left. Which driver is right and who is wrong?

If you really learned traffic rules, then you should know that the drivers who turned on the right turn signal when entering the ring are right. The fact is that the circle is still the same intersection. Accordingly, all turn signals on it should be exactly the same. If the driver turns left, then he turns on the left turn signal, right - right.

The same rule applies to rebuilding. When entering the roundabout, the driver always moves to the right. So he must turn on the right turn signal. It's not hard to remember this. Turn on the turn signal to which you turn the steering wheel.

When driving around the ring, if the driver does not change lanes, it is recommended to turn off the turn signal and turn it on when making any maneuver.

As we have already found out, you can drive through the ring in any lane. But here it should be remembered that the constant use of the right lane without congresses is quite dangerous. The fact is that out of ignorance or non-compliance with traffic rules, every second motorist seeks to jump into the exit he needs from the inside, or even worse from the left lane.

At the same time, these drivers firmly believe that if another motorist is in the right lane along the ring, then he must definitely leave the circle. Accidents in such situations happen very often. Therefore, you should not abuse the traffic in the right lane if you do not need to use the nearest exit.

The same paragraph 8.5 of the SDA will help us answer this question. Recall that the rules prescribe the driver when turning right, left or turning around in advance to occupy extreme position on the road corresponding to the direction of rotation. It turns out that exit from the ring is possible only from the right lane.

However, exceptions are possible due to markings and signs. That is, on the pavement in front of the exit from the ring we see arrows indicating the possibility of moving to the right from two lanes at once, and there are signs above the road indicating traffic in lanes. If there are no special signs and markings, then you can only move off the ring into the right lane.

Is this rule followed in real life? Of course not. Every second driver ignores these rules. Motorists can leave the circle in any lane and from any lane.

It is very common to see drivers directing their cars to the right exit from the inner lane of the roundabout. Such violators do not even think about the fact that they are violating traffic rules and in the event of an accident, traffic police officers find them guilty, with all the ensuing consequences.

Let's consider a situation where a driver is moving along the inner lane of a circle and he needs to move into one of the nearest exits from the ring. How to do it right? Taking into account the rules of rebuilding.

When driving around the ring, you need to give signals with turn signals in a timely manner and do not forget about the interference on the right. That is, the driver must first move to the right lane to then be able to move off the circle without violating the rules. Of course, with such a rebuilding, it will be necessary to let everyone who moves to the right pass.

Driving straight around the ring

Often in large cities in front of large roundabouts you can see a combination of signs 4.3 and 2.1.

The latter has an explanatory sign indicating the direction. Most often, the main road on such a ring means driving straight around the ring.

Features of the passage of such an intersection:

  • In the event that a motorist intends to drive straight, he can do this without stopping, using his pre-emptive right. Of course, you need to make sure that other drivers pass it.
  • In the event that he enters the ring road on the main road, but intends to use another exit in the future, then the driver, when leaving the main road, will have to give way to cars entering the circle from the right.

Since the passage of such intersections has always caused difficulties for drivers, today traffic lights are increasingly used instead of signs. This greatly simplifies the rules of the road. Unfortunately, only new intersections with roundabouts and the main road are equipped with traffic lights.

Responsibility for traffic violations on the ring

Drivers who violate the rules on the circle can be fined if the violation is recorded by the traffic police. The amount of the fine depends on the severity of the violation. So, when leaving the ring with ignoring the prohibitory signal of a traffic light, the driver will be fined for 1,000 rubles.

In case of a repeated violation, the driver will be fined in the amount of 5,000 rubles or may revoke a driver's license for up to six months. The choice of one or another type of punishment is taken by the court.

When driving through a roundabout, the driver may be fined for the following violations:

  1. If he did not provide an advantage when entering the ring.
  2. The driver was moving in the opposite direction to the general flow.
  3. He did not use turn signals when changing lanes at the ring.
  4. The driver left the roundabout from the wrong lane.
  5. He parked at the crossroads.

Failure to provide an advantage is punishable by a fine in 1,000 rubles regardless of whether the relevant road signs were installed or not.

In our country, the ring traffic is carried out counterclockwise. You can't go around the circle in a clockwise direction. Such a breach punishable by disqualification.

The new rules allow parking on the ring only if the car is within 5 meters from the intersection of the carriageways. If this condition is not met, the driver will be fined. for 500 rubles.

When entering a roundabout under sign 2.4, only those drivers who are already moving in the right lane of the circle should be allowed to pass. You do not need to wait at all for the inner lanes of the circle to be free. You can immediately continue driving in the right lane.

In such a situation, you need to be extremely careful, since there is a high probability that other drivers who do not comply with traffic rules will drive out of the inner circle in front of you.

Try to always follow the rules of movement around the ring. But don't blindly follow the letter of the law. Performing any maneuver assess the situation objectively around you. This will help you avoid fines and accidents.
