We made three candles - two with rice paper (an old text and a bird), the second with pieces of napkin (leaves).
The principle is simple. First we fix our picture to the candle. If it is small, then you can simply hold it with your finger, if we wrap the whole candle, then it is enough to wrap it with a thread for the first time until the picture is seized with wax, and remove the thread as the work approaches it.
Then we heat our spoon on the candle and while it is hot we iron the paper on the candle so that the wax comes through. Gently and smoothly, without pressing too hard. And so step by step, making sure that there are no “dry” places and trying not to get out of the borders of the picture, so as not to create smudges.
And so on until the whole image is glued. The most main mistake The newcomer here is that he believes that the hotter the spoon, the better, which means that its convex side must be heated and it is for her to pass over the candle. It's logical! Yes, if not for one "but". The candle has the ability to smoke. And black soot will immediately ruin your work. And a spoon? But a spoon from your favorite service - no. It will be easy to wash it off. And the soot on the candle and the picture is unlikely to be removed. Therefore, everyone acts simply - we heat the spoon on one side (concave), stroke the other side (convex) and all the wisdom.
When the candle is ready, it should be polished, to hide the traces of the touch of the spoon. Although not required. To do this, gently rub with a soft cloth according to our picture. You can warm it up a little with a hair dryer or about 4 cm from the candle flame. But we are not zealous. It is better to under-dry than to erase the whole picture from the candle along with the wax.
