Progress
1. We take tangerines and wrap them with a rope crosswise. Be careful, wrap tight so that your tangerines do not fall out of the ropes. But do not overdo it, otherwise you risk splashing the entire workspace with juice and spoiling the product.
2. We coat the branch with PVA glue and dip it in “snow”, this is done so that the needles do not stick together.
3. From foam or oasis, cut out a cone that will fit in a pot. To make the structure heavier, you can put a stone or a piece of lead on the bottom of the pot.
4. Please note that the pot must match the size of the entire composition, that is, be proportional.
5. Let's get down to the most difficult and crucial part. We strengthen the branch in the oasis so that it does not hang out. We begin to tie tangerines to one another, starting from the bottom. Making a frame and a trunk for a Christmas tree
We twist a paper sheet in the form of a cone and glue it along the edges with PVA glue. Then we measure the height of the cone with a ruler and draw a cut line along the bottom edge.
A strong aluminum wire will serve as a trunk. We string a cone on it so that the wire goes beyond the top of the cone, and put a foam cap on the opposite end of the wire, push it further, closing the bottom of the cone.
It is better to fill the inner space of the frame for our Christmas tree with old newsprint so that it does not deform during further work with it. Do not forget to treat the ends of the foam cap with PVA glue before closing the cone with it.
We give shape to the future topiary: we glue the lining fabric to the foam bottom, we fix its edges on the sides of the frame itself. We give the necessary shape to the trunk of the topiary: from above above the top of the cone and from below with the help of pliers, tightly wrap it with twine. Then we wrap the frame itself several times with green thread.
And the last thing left for us: wrap the entire Christmas tree from top to bottom with green thick thread for knitting. Don't forget to secure your work with glue.
Christmas tree pot decoration
It is necessary to choose not too large, but not too small a pot for New Year's topiary. In my case, it turned out to be a glass of yogurt.
We cut the glass for work, glue it on the bottom with lining fabric and wrap it in burlap, the edges of which are folded inside the glass.
Now you need to prepare a gypsum solution to fix the topiary in a pot. To do this, we dilute gypsum with water in approximately the same proportion so that the mixture eventually turns out to be thick, like fatty sour cream. With this solution, we almost completely fill the glass.
We immerse the trunk of our Christmas tree in the solution and hold it in this position for a while so that the gypsum in the pot hardens a little.
After the gypsum has completely hardened, we make out a glass. We let the braid along its upper and lower edges, you can also decorate the center with sequins or lace flowers. We mask the surface of the “soil” in a pot with a padding polyester and put gifts made from candy wrappers into it.
Now the best part: decorating the Christmas tree itself. We decorate the lower edge of the “skirt” with braid to match the overall composition. We put necklaces of gold beads on the Christmas tree, glue one short thread to the very tip of the topiary and mask it with a small gold bow on top. Next, we decorate the Christmas tree with bows, beads, sequins in a free order.

Now you can assemble the structure together. The branch is stuck into the base in the pot, and then a spherical base is put on its second end. Tangerines are attached with wire. For reliability, they can be lubricated with glue.
The gaps between the citruses are filled with mistletoe leaves. Their ends are threaded through the middle and stuck into the base. At the end, the composition is supplemented with spruce branches.
Candy Topiary
Do-it-yourself New Year's topiary for 2018 is easy to create from candy. Such options are extremely simple to perform and look very appetizing. With such sweetness, you can surprise your friends and relatives by giving them an unusual New Year's present and an excellent decoration for your home.
For manufacturing you will need:
- flower pot;
- foam ball and cube;
- a sheet of colored cardboard;
- stick for the trunk;
- adhesive and satin tape;
- 200-300 gr. lollipops;
- decorative glass stones.
First, the foam cube is placed in a pot. Then two lines are drawn diagonally with a marker and the center is marked. A stick should be stuck in the center of the cube, on which the base will be fixed.
To make the topiary look neater, it is recommended to cover the foam with a sheet of cardboard in which a hole for the stick has been previously cut out. It is important that the material is the size of a flower pot.
The Styrofoam ball is then carefully covered with duct tape.
Before completely pasting the entire ball, it is recommended to stick a stick into it, since it will be much more difficult to do this through the tape.
When the base is completely ready, you can start decorating it. Lollipops are placed as close as possible to each other, covering the entire area with them. After that, the bottom is smeared with a generous layer of glue and decorative pebbles or sweets are poured onto it. Finally, a bow is made from a satin ribbon on the trunk of a festive tree. Do-it-yourself New Year's topiary for 2018 may be deprived of a spherical base, consist of large pine cones and twigs, as well as New Year's toys. Such a tree may well replace a live Christmas tree in the house, in addition, the materials for its creation are inexpensive.
For manufacturing you will need:
- Pine cones;
- pine or spruce branches;
- small Christmas balls;
- flower pot;
- wooden skewers for the trunk;
- twine or twine for decoration;

Next, you need to make a base that will serve as a trunk for the tree. To do this, take a few skewers and process their ends with a glue gun so that they stick together better and do not crumble. Insert the end of the wire between the skewers and securely fix it with silicone glue.
After that, gypsum is diluted to the consistency of thick sour cream and its pre-prepared pot is laid out. A stick is installed in the center and hold it a little until the material solidifies completely.
To make the trunk look more attractive, it is wrapped with twine or twine. The ends of the rope can be fixed with a glue gun.
Then the pot must be pasted over with a small piece of burlap, giving it the shape of a decorative bag. The edges should be folded alternately and fixed with hot glue. Next, the pot is tied with a bright satin ribbon. It is worth considering that when creating a topiary, you can use other means for decoration.
At the next stage, the crown of the tree is supplemented with pine branches. They are inserted between the cones and fixed with a glue gun. To give them a snowy look, they are covered with ordinary glue and dipped in crushed foam. Some branches can be decorated with Christmas balls.
Topiary - herringbone
As mentioned earlier, the topiary does not always have a classic template in the form of a spherical crown. This tree is made in the form of a festive Christmas tree and decorated with sweet candies in colorful wrappers.
To make this version of the topiary you will need:
- Styrofoam;
- coil of thick wire;
- large candies in wrappers;
- corrugated paper;
- decorative rope;
- cable with a diameter of 0.5-1 cm;
- textile and plastic tapes;
- small cones, balls and other decorations to your taste.
At the beginning, you should prepare a tourniquet, which will serve as a connecting link. To do this, the cable is wrapped with tape, you can use chintz or satin. The edges are fixed with hot glue. In general, the tourniquet can be given any shape at its discretion.
Next, you need to prepare a bell that will decorate the top of the topiary. It is worth noting that it can be seen with a small Christmas ball or a large bead. The edge of a long piece of wire is fixed on a bell. To compact it a little, the wire is pasted over with paper.
After that, they begin to work with a foam cone, the basis for the Christmas tree. You can buy a ready-made cone in the store or carefully cut it yourself. A rope is glued to the base and gradually begin to wrap the figure around it. It is worth noting that sisal, a synthetic fiber, is also perfect for this.
Before you completely cover the cone with a rope, you should insert a wire with a bell into its top. Photo 29 shows the recommended length to be left. After the rope covers the figure, it continues to wrap the wire to the very base of the bell. The end is fixed with hot glue.
Then the bottom of the cone is glued with sweets. They are glued by the tails, pressing the sweets tightly against each other to fit as much as possible. In photo 31 you can see the result. You can also fill the remaining space with cones and balls.
The next step is to create a base for the topiary. In this case, a diamond-shaped foam is used for it. It is pasted over with paper, ribbons and rhinestones to taste.
At the end, the tree is attached to the stand and the last decorative elements are added: various ribbon bows, corrugated paper flowers, multi-colored beads and more.
Topiaries made according to this principle have many different designs. The photos below show the options for decorating these holiday trees.
New Year's masterpiece - mini tree
The next topiary is a real work of art. A Christmas tree garland was used to decorate this tree. It is not a mandatory component, but it looks very impressive, especially with the lights off.
To create you will need:
- sheet of A3 paper;
- mounting foam;
- wire 3-4 mm thick;
- double-sided thin tape;
- sisal fiber;
- ceramic pot;
- glue gun;
- ordinary tape;
- stick for a tree trunk;
- decorative tape;
- beads and garland.
You can choose other decorative elements if you wish.
To form the base, it is necessary to roll the paper into a cone and secure it with adhesive tape on both sides. The diameter of the cone should be slightly wider than that of the pot.
Then the cone is filled with mounting foam. It will be enough to fill it up to the middle and leave it overnight. After complete drying, all paper is carefully removed. It is recommended to trim the bottom with a knife so that it is even.
After that, the stick is placed in the center of the pot and filled to the middle with foam. It is recommended to hold the stick so that it does not move until the material hardens. In the photo, the foam has already hardened.
At this time, you can do the Christmas tree itself. To make its top more expressive, you should take a piece of wire and twist it slightly, and then stick it into the cone. Then the entire Christmas tree from the very tip to the base is covered with double-sided thin tape. Do not confuse thin tape with narrow tape.
Next, you need to carefully wrap the garland around the figure. It is important not to damage it, otherwise it will stop working. The length of the garland should be enough to completely wrap the topiary and only the box for changing the mode will remain below.
Then the entire surface of the cone is covered with sisal. This material has a fibrous texture. Opening a small piece, you should evenly cover the entire crown of the tree with fiber.
Finally, the stick is stuck into the cone and they begin to decorate the Christmas tree. If desired, you can stick a little wool on top of the mounting foam in a pot, imitating fluffy snow. And wrap some bright beads around the festive tree. By experimenting, a variety of design options are obtained.
