Sew a plaid envelope from minky plush. Minky plush features and characteristics - everything from A to Z

Plush - soft, warm fabric, covered with a pile of silk, wool or fibers. The material is widely used in the tailoring of women's clothing, the manufacture of curtains and stage costumes,. It is from this matter that a teddy bear and other soft toys are made. Pleasant to the touch plush fabric gives a feeling of comfort and carelessness, involuntarily returning to childhood.

Material Description

The plush surface is either solid or patterned.

Plush fabric is made using the pile weave method, which is formed by three systems of threads. Two root systems, warp and weft, due to plain or twill weaving, have high strength and hold well the pile formed by the third, pile, thread. Silk, wool and cotton fibers are used for the manufacture of pile.

The pile on the surface of plush products can be long or short. Its height ranges from 3 to 16 mm. Fabrics with the longest pile are categorized.

The plush surface can be solid or patterned, in the form of narrow and wide stripes, small and large pile patterns. Despite the significant weight and thickness of the fabric, it drapes perfectly, does not form bald spots and creases.

Varieties of fabric

Plush fabric has many varieties that differ in the type of fibers present in the composition of the material, the method of formation of the pile and finish.

Material composition

Traditionally, the manufacturer produces the basis of plush fabric and pile from cotton threads. In addition, there is also woolen plush, when the cotton base is covered with silk or woolen villi. Recently, synthetic fibers are often used for the manufacture of this matter, which, in combination with a knitted base, make the fabric softer and more stretchable.

Pile formation method

The most popular product from this type of material is a teddy bear.

Plush can be looped and split. The fabric, worked out in a looped way, in appearance resembles a terry cloth. It is made using a special knitting machine. Additional fibers are knitted into the soil, which are pulled to the front side of the fabric and form a pile of loops. The fabric can be either cross-knitted or warp-knitted.

Split plush is made using a double-loop knitting machine, on which the warp is knitted and the loops are pulled out at the same time. As a result of cutting the loops with a special circular knife, a material with a dense, vertically directed pile is obtained.

There is a double-sided plush fabric, which is distinguished by the presence of villi on both sides of the fabric, front and back. Moreover, both looped and split plush can have such a feature.

Finishing

According to the method of finishing, smooth, embossed, patterned and textured fabrics are distinguished. Most often, the plush surface has villi of the same length, tightly adjacent to each other.

To create an embossed surface, the fibers are laid with a press in a given direction. Figured matter, decorated with various ornaments and patterns, is obtained by changing the length of the pile.

Textured finish includes all existing types: drawings, ornaments, and areas with piles of different height and density.

Advantages and disadvantages

Plush fabric has many undeniable advantages due to the composition and structure of the material.

  • High strength.
  • Attractive appearance.
  • Good thermal insulation properties.
  • Variety of applications.

Along with the advantages, it is necessary to note the disadvantages of plush material.

  • Products are heavy.
  • Matter is difficult to sew and care for.
  • The canvas quickly becomes dirty, as the pile is clogged with dust.

Fabric with silk pile gets dirty much less than cotton material, but has a higher cost.

Application

Plush furnish of furniture meets and now.

Despite all the shortcomings and considerable cost, the plush fabric was in demand for many years and indicated the wealth and aristocracy of its owner. It cannot be said that today this type of textile is at the peak of popularity, although it is still used to make decorative and furniture fabrics for finishing public spaces and concert halls. Many needlewomen use exclusively this traditional material to make toys.

Plush products require special care, otherwise the thing may forever lose its attractive appearance.

It is better not to wash things from this material, but to use dry cleaning services. If, nevertheless, the thing is washed, you should not twist it, it is better to let the water drain naturally and then lay it out on a horizontal surface to dry.

Dust and dry dirt can be removed with a soft cloth brush.

Sewing from plush requires special skills. Cutting parts should be done in one layer and position the canvas in a certain way. A short pile should be directed upwards, and a long one, on the contrary, should be directed downwards. In addition, sufficiently large seam allowances should be left, as the pile crumbles a lot. Plush toys are best sewn by hand.

Future mothers and fathers, having learned about the addition to the family, begin to actively prepare for the magical event - the birth of a child. Create and decorate a children's room, buy diapers, toys, fairy tales - everything falls on the shoulders of the parents, having a great impact on the size of the wallet.

Due to high costs, the budget quickly evaporates, so you need to start saving. Saving does not mean buying bad and low-quality products. Saving is thinking with your own head and correctly calculating the budget. A good way to save the budget is home sewing for children's things. For example, a blanket. In the store you can find blankets of different quality and color, different shapes and firms, but the extra charge makes itself felt. There is no such markup in online stores, but is it really possible to virtually feel the blanket, check the quality of the seams. A good option is to make your own minky plush blanket.

A beautiful double-sided blanket for a boy is suitable for a stroller, crib, and even for discharge.

Basic materials for the blanket:

  • quality cotton;
  • plush.

When sewing a winter blanket, you will need a synthetic winterizer.

  • sewing machine, thread;
  • scissors, measuring tape.

Why plush and cotton?

Plush Minky - microfiber. Soft, gentle, pleasantly lies on the body. Warm, breathable, baby will keep warm but not sweaty.

100% polyester. Many consider this a guarantee of poor quality. Modern technologies are constantly developing, so synthetic material is no worse than natural, and in some ways even better. There is no unpleasant odor, and it does not absorb environmental odors.

The material is very dense, so it will be difficult to tear or wipe. Also does not wrinkle, easily tolerates stains. You can wash it at least every week, while it will not lose its rich colors, its softness and tenderness.

Quality plush - American made. But material from European, Chinese and Korean factories is suitable.

Cotton is natural, hypoallergenic. Excellent breathability, allowing the skin to breathe. Absorbs 20% moisture and stays dry. A variety of colors and prints provides a choice to your taste.

Producers of high-quality cotton - American, Korean, Polish factories. Cotton of European, Chinese production is also suitable.

How to sew a summer and winter minky plush blanket for a child?

First you need to wash the cotton fabric in warm water. As a result of washing, the blanket can change its size, so it is better to let only cotton deform, otherwise the blanket will be disfigured.

Dimensions for baby blanket:

  • 100×100 cm;
  • 100×110 cm;
  • 100×120 cm.

You can make a smaller blanket, but then it will not last long, because children grow very quickly.

  1. Lay out the plush on a flat surface. We measure the required size, cut off the excess. We carry out the same actions with cotton fabric.
  2. Fold the two types of fabric together, right sides inward. Since the plush stretches well, it is better to pin its edges with pins to the edges of the cotton.
  3. We make a basting or immediately sew on a typewriter with a regular seam, stepping back from the edge of 5-10 mm. It is necessary to leave somewhere 15 cm in order to have a hole through which you can turn the product on the front side.
  4. Having turned the coverlet on the front side, you need to sew up the hole with a blind seam manually or on a typewriter.

You have sewn with your own hands a light blanket that warms the child during cool summer nights. It is worth doing the same for cold weather, it will differ in density, therefore, it will retain more heat and warm the baby. The manufacturing principle is the same, only it is necessary to add a synthetic winterizer.

  1. Cut out equal pieces of synthetic winterizer, cotton and minky plush.

    We put the fabric on a flat surface, smooth it, pin the pattern to it with pins and cut it out

    We make the same pattern from plush for the second side.

    Detail from a synthetic winterizer for a winter version of a blanket

  2. We lay the synthetic winterizer, put plush on it with the smooth side, on top - cotton face down.

    We put the details on top of each other: synthetic winterizer, plush, soft side up and the third layer - cotton, face down

  3. We pin the edges with pins, sew with a regular seam, retreating 1 cm. Leave 20 cm not stitched.

    Three layers of plaid, pinned together

    We sew on a typewriter, retreating from the edge of about 1 cm

  4. Through the resulting hole, turn the blanket inside out, manually sew the unsewn place.

    We leave a slot of 15-20 cm so that you can turn the blanket right side out

  5. Since there is a synthetic winterizer inside, you should stitch the fabrics several times on the outside. The synthetic winterizer can roll up during washing, causing some inconvenience, and multiple seams will help fix it.

    We turn it on the front side and we cut off the remaining slot with pins, we sew it on our hands

    We chop off the plaid with pins along the edges

    We sew the blanket, retreating 3 cm from the edge

Care and washing of the blanket

The plush is made of polyester, so washing is not a problem. However, there are a few guidelines to follow:

The plush should be carefully cut, as a slight shedding may occur: some pieces of fabric may move away from the main one. But it will not affect the main part of the fabric.

What can be sewn from minky plush?

The material is very modern and practical, many useful things are made from it:

  • decorative pillows, pillowcases for ordinary pillows;

    Minki plush and cotton polka dot toy pillows

  • blanket for kids and adults;

    Reversible Minky Plush Blanket

  • light summer blanket;

    Thin blanket with ears in soft plush and cotton

  • an envelope for an extract from the hospital;

    Unusual envelope for an extract with your own hands

  • warm pajamas, bathrobes, other home clothes;

    Minky soft plush baby romper

  • fluffy toys;

    Minky plush soft toy “Whale”

  • hats, scarves, mittens for babies;

    Turquoise and gray soft plush baby set

  • rugs for children to play on.

How to decorate plush fabric products?

If the usual plain blanket or pajamas does not suit you, then you need to think about how to diversify the product.

  • Instead of plain fabrics, you can buy with a pattern. They will look more fun.
  • Beautiful embroidery on the blanket. True, this requires special skill and skill, but it is still possible. The main thing is to properly fix the blanket so that the embroidery does not turn out to be crooked.

It's a bad idea to sew on sequins, beads, other small things, they are easy to pluck and swallow. If the product is not for children, for example, a decorative pillow, then the list of decorations increases significantly. The main thing is to show originality.

Monochromatic plush looks aesthetically pleasing, attractive. Do not give up and think about how to decorate a children's blanket. The kid will love him for his softness and warmth, and the fact that he is monophonic is not at all important.

Expectant mothers begin to prepare for the birth of a baby long before the birth of a child. In a few months they choose strollers, order a crib, buy clothes and envelopes for discharge ( in the previous article, we prepared detailed instructions on how to sew an envelope for an extract with your own hands, if you are interested, go). It is important not to forget to prepare a warm blanket for the little person. He will always save the baby in questionable weather, they can cover the child in a crib, in a stroller, or just wrap him up.

In specialized stores for children's goods, such things are not cheap, although their cost is much lower. It is clear that the mark-up includes the rent of the premises, the salaries of employees, etc. Is it worth it to overpay? Of course, it is cheaper to buy a blanket in an online store. But then you will not be able to feel it, examine the seams, the quality of the material, the color in the photo and in real life may differ. The best option is to sew a blanket yourself. In this case, you will be able to choose a high-quality fabric, and be sure that the material does not negatively affect the skin of the child, and you can follow the quality of tailoring, and combine colors to your own taste. In general, there are many advantages, it remains to figure out how to do it quickly and correctly. So let's get started.

The first thing to start with is the preparation of the necessary materials and tools. The blanket will be double sided.

You will need three different materials:

  1. Sintepon (if you are going to sew a winter blanket);
  2. Plush Minky;
  3. Cotton fabric.

Why plush and cotton?

Plush Minky- This is a microfiber plush with a low and sparse pile. His "trick" in cute, soft and tender pimples, which are very popular with children. The fabric is very soft and gentle, pleasant to the body, incredibly warm. To understand the peculiarity of this material, remember the teddy bear. Composed of 100% polyester. Cotton- It is also called "children's". This is a natural, hypoallergenic fabric that does not cause allergies, skin irritations, and is absolutely safe for the health of the child. Modern manufacturers offer a huge selection of flowers and prints. The most modern colors in the collection of Polish cotton. This material is affordable. The fabric is breathable and does not create a greenhouse effect, the skin breathes in summer and retains heat in winter. Cotton has the ability to absorb 30% of moisture from the total mass, and at the same time remain absolutely dry. For children's skin, this is a very important factor, since the sweating function of a little man is formed up to 5 years. And increased body moisture is possible.

You can order Polish cotton at low prices. We guarantee quality and fast delivery.

You will also need:

  • Scissors;
  • Pencil or soap;
  • Threads;
  • Meter tape;
  • Sewing machine.

We decide on the size. Recommended: 100/100 cm (you will get a square blanket); 100/110 cm; 100/120 cm (rectangular shape). You can make a square blanket, or with rounded corners. The toe will help round the corners. The square shape can be immediately measured and cut on the fabric. For a shape with round corners, it is better to make a pattern on paper. Then attach it with pins to the cotton, and cut it out. Do the same with plush and synthetic winterizer (if the blanket is winter).

  1. Lay the plush on a flat surface, such as a table. Measure a square or rectangle of the desired size, and cut along the contour. Repeat the same with cotton.
  2. Cut it out the same size. We remind you once again that it is better to wash and dry it beforehand, and only then start cutting. After that, you can safely wash the product, and not worry that it will shrink. In some cases, shrinkage can be 4 cm per meter.
  3. You need to fold the cotton and minky plush right sides together. Remember that plush stretches. Therefore, we recommend pinning it with pins around the entire perimeter so that nothing moves.
  4. We sew along the contour with a regular seam, stepping back from the edge of 0.5-1 cm.
  5. Leave a 10-15 cm edge somewhere so that you can turn the blanket right side out through this hole. The seams in this case will turn out inside.
  6. When you're done with the edges, carefully turn the blanket inside out.
  7. Next, you need to sew a hole.
  8. This can be done with a blind seam by hand or on a typewriter.
  9. You can make a border around the edges to make a flat border.

You can buy Minky cotton and plush at the best prices. Modern colors of the latest collections. Excellent quality. Fast delivery across Ukraine.

You should get a beautiful summer blanket for a child. If you need a blanket for a colder season, use a padding polyester. The sewing principle will be slightly different from the previous one.

  • Cut 3 identical parts of the fabric, and the same from the padding polyester.
  • Then lay out the synthetic winterizer on a flat surface.
  • From above cover it with plush - to the top with the side with pimples.
  • Then lay the cotton face down on it.
  • Secure everything around the edges with pins.
  • Step back from the edge 1 cm, and sew with a machine.
  • Leave a 20 cm hole in the corner of the blanket so that the blanket can be turned inside out. To make it look prettier when turned inside out, we recommend making small cuts at the corners, and then turn it inside out.
  • Then pin the hole through which you turned it out with pins, and sew it by hand.
  • Step back 4 cm from the edge of the blanket, and sew with a machine.
  • Do not forget that there is a synthetic winterizer inside. When washed, it can roll up and form ugly bumps, while reducing the ability to warm. Therefore, we recommend stitching the blanket several times on the outside.

Hello everyone))) I want to offer you to sew a baby mammoth according to my pattern))) Do not throw slippers too hard, this is my first such MK))) I made a master class for the competition. Here we go? ...

When I look at it, a song pops up in my head...

Let mom hear, let mom come
May my mother find me!

For children to be lost.
After all, it does not happen in the world,
For children to be lost.

Here's what we'll need:

3. Cotton for the inside of the ear

I don’t write the size because everyone will choose according to the height of their mammoth

11. etc. what would you like to decorate?

1. Determine the direction of the pile. The pile must look down

2. We fold our piece and transfer the pattern to the fabric (do not forget about the seam allowances) We begin to sew. You can sew by hand (Fig. 1), you can use a typewriter (stitch length 2 mm) Do not forget to leave a place for stuffing unsewn

3. After we have sewn our parts, we cut them out leaving allowances of 2-3 mm

4. Sew the parts of the body and head

5. Sew the ears. We twist. It turned out such a miracle. Now you can start assembling

6. We will mount the head on cotter pins. Insert one pin into another. To do this, the "antennae" of one of the cotter pins need to be separated a little

7. On top of one of the cotter pins we put on a disk and a washer. With the help of round-nose pliers, we twist the "antennae" (on one side only!) The "antennae" must be rounded so that they fall on the washer

8. Stuff the head, insert the mount and sew the hole with a blind stitch (Fig. 2)

9. It turned out such a little head

10. Now we connect the head with the body. We insert the cotter pin into the body, put a disk and washer on it

11. We twist the "antennae" in the same way as we did before

12. Now you can start filling the calf. First, we add 1 - 1.5 teaspoons of granulate, then filler. We fill the paws.

13. Now you can start attaching the legs. We try on the paws and start sewing.

14. We need a long needle and a strong thread. We thread the needle into the needle (it is better to cut the thread longer) We pierce our foot

15. We insert the needle into the body where the paws were tried on (places can be marked with pins) We bring the needle to the opposite side. We do not tighten the thread much, leave the tip cm 10

16. We pierce the second foot. We insert the needle into the body, stepping back from the puncture in the direction of 2-3 mm and bring it to the opposite side, also stepping back from the puncture

17. Pierce the foot in the opposite direction

18. We take our ponytails and bring them out in turn to the opposite side next to the puncture, leaving 1-2 mm between them

19. Carefully begin to tighten our ponytails and see how the legs are pressed against the body. When we see that we have tightened enough, we tie the ponytails into a knot and hide them in the body. Here our baby is already looming

20. We do the same with the upper paws.

21. We proceed to the design of the muzzle. We cut out circles from felt with a diameter slightly larger than our eyes.

22. We make tightenings for the eyes.

23. We put our circles into the recesses

24. Cooking eyes. Cut off a strong thread and tie in a loop

26. We insert both ends of the thread into the needle and stick it into our prepared circle, bringing the needle out at the base of the head. Gently pull up on the eye to make sure it stays in place. We do the same with the second eye.

27. We tie our ponytails into a knot and hide in the head.

28. Here is such a muzzle should turn out. With pins we outline a place for the ears.

29. Let's start with the ears. Where we had an unsewn place, we sew it with a hidden seam (Fig. 2) and tighten it to get gatherings. We sew the ears where we marked with pins in advance.

Our baby is ready! There is not much left to decorate.

Thank you for your attention)))
