  3. In a bowl or any other flat container, mix glue (150 g), water (50 g) and starch (100 g).
  4. Unwind a thread about a meter long from a common ball (you do not need to cut it off) and dip it into a container with a sticky mass, soak it there and wind it around a ball. Next, unwind another piece of thread and fasten it to the rubber base in the same way. Wind the yarn in random order, trying to distribute it evenly over the entire surface of the balloon.
  5. Leave the finished product to dry in a warm room for 24 hours.
  6. Poke a rubber ball with a needle and pull it through the hole between the threads.

How to wind threads?

And do not forget to cover the work surface with oilcloth, because, no matter how hard you try, everything is covered in glue!

Do-it-yourself ball of thread and glueGood day, dear needlewomen! It just so happened that I post on the site all my materials that I make with my own hands, although sometimes they are not sewing, but simply handmade.

In fact, there is no particular difficulty in this process and the Internet is simply replete with information on how to do this. But ... .. it is not always possible to do this perfectly, and if you do not yet have such experience, then small nuances and secrets will come in handy in any case)).

Thread balls are used for various decorative purposes: decorating the ceiling, curtains, etc. I also needed to make shades for the chandelier, and it turned out very beautiful and unusual.

How to make a ball of thread step by step?
You will need for this case:

rubber balloons for inflating
PVA glue
threads
starch

And now I will dwell on these components of the process in more detail.
Threads
The threads can be different - acrylic, cotton, but it is not advised to only take woolen threads for these purposes. 100% synthetic is perfect.
balls
I needed the largest balls for the chandelier, and, as it turns out, there are not so many types. So take balls with a ring at the end, it is very convenient to hang a ball heavy from glue after spreading, and the shape of the ball is not deformed thanks to this ring.

Glue
Perhaps this is the most important point in the preparation process, since the glue must be taken exclusively at a hardware store, and it should be written on it that it is intended for gluing wooden surfaces. Do not take glue in ordinary stationery stores, as there it is initially diluted with water.
And I was also advised to use liquid glass instead of PVA glue. It is also sold in a hardware store, it looks like glue in consistency, and a chandelier made of such material will generally be eternal. But I haven't tried this method yet.

You also need to prepare the glue a little: dilute three tablespoons of starch with water, stir well and add this mixture to a half-liter jar of PVA glue, so the glue will become a little thinner, it will be easier to apply to the threads, and the starch will give even more strength to the product.

So, we inflate the balls and lubricate them with any oil - technical, sunflower or Johnson's baby ... This is necessary so that the glue does not stick to the ball, but rolls off in places where there are no threads, and does not create a thin film when dried.

How to wind threads?
It’s probably more convenient to do it together, but not always “this second one” is nearby, so it’s important to adapt to the spreading process yourself, I tried several methods, tried to put the thread through a half-liter plastic bottle, I don’t know how other masters did it, maybe their thread was “live”, but my thread stubbornly did not want to climb through a thin hole in the bottle ...

Therefore, I had only one option left - to smear, but apply glue to the threads directly with my hands.

Therefore, we take a large basin and pour a little glue on the bottom there.

We tie the first wrap of the thread into a knot and begin to evenly wind the threads around the ball. You can dip the threads into the glue in small portions and then wind them up, but in this case the threads can get tangled, or you can simply smear the thread evenly with your hands at the moment it is applied to the ball, this, of course, takes longer, but you don’t have to be nervous when the threads get tangled ...
And do not forget to cover the work surface with oilcloth, because, no matter how hard you try, everything is covered in glue!

We hang the well-wound ball for a couple of days to dry, then carefully blow off the rubber ball and take it out. The ball of thread is ready!

To decorate the room for the holiday, it is not at all necessary to buy expensive decor items. You can surprise guests by making original balls of thread and glue with your own hands. Such balls will look very attractive, while you do not have to spend a lot of time and money on decorating the room.

What is required for work

Most of the materials that you will need to make jewelry can be found in the household. Even if you don’t manage to find everything you need at home, then you shouldn’t be upset - all the materials can be bought at the store, and they are inexpensive.

So, for work you will need:

  1. glue;
  2. threads;
  3. air balloons;
  4. cream or vaseline.

Glue

An important question is what kind of glue to use for the balls. Special attention should be paid to his choice. PVA or paste is best suited for work. It is not recommended to use ordinary clerical glue, as it will not hold the threads together well.

The easiest and most convenient way is to use pure PVA glue. After drying, it does not leave sloppy marks and does not spoil the appearance of the finished product.

If desired, a paste can be made from PVA glue. To do this, add 50 g of water and 5 tablespoons of sugar to 10 g of glue. When using thick threads, it is recommended to add starch to this mixture - it will make the ball stronger and harder.

Threads

To figure out which thread to use for balls of thread, you need to decide what kind of product you want to end up with. If you need small balls, then you can take ordinary sewing threads or floss. If the balls must be large, then it is best to use a fairly thick yarn.

In the absence of yarn, you can dissolve the old unnecessary sweater.

In order for the threads that have already been in use to become even and beautiful, they must be slightly moistened and tightly wound around a book or chair legs. When the yarn is completely dry, you can use it for work.

If you could not find the threads of the desired color, then you can purchase a can of paint and paint the finished products.

Balloons

The size of the balloons must be selected depending on the size of your decorative balloons made of thread. If you want to make them very small, then the balloons can be replaced with ordinary pharmacy fingertips. However, it must be taken into account that after inflation they must have the correct round shape.

Manufacturing process

Before starting work, you should prepare the workplace. If the products will be made on the table, then cover its surface with a film. In case you plan to make balls in a suspended state, you will need to cover the floor under the workplace with a film. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands from the glue.

How to make a ball of thread and glue step by step is described in the following instructions:

  • Pour the glue into a small container. If you prepared it yourself, then make sure that it has a sufficiently liquid, but not too thick consistency - when immersed, the threads should be quickly and well saturated with glue.
  • Depending on what size your balloon, thread and glue craft should be, inflate the balloon to the desired size.
  • Then apply fat cream, petroleum jelly or sunflower oil to the surface of the ball. This will be required so that later the threads are well separated from the surface of the balloon.
  • Now dip the thread into the glue, and then wrap it around the balloon, making a strong knot. After fixing the thread on the ball, start winding it in random order. In the process of work, it is necessary to ensure that the thread is well saturated in glue, otherwise the finished decoration will delaminate.
  • At this stage, many people ask themselves: how to wrap the ball with threads with glue correctly, and how many turns are required? The more layers you wind, the stronger your product will be. If there is too little thread, the ball will eventually not hold its shape and will deform.
  • When you wrap enough layers on the base ball, you can send the product to dry. To do this, simply hang it by a thread, after laying a large oilcloth under the bottom. Complete drying time depends on the room temperature. On average, drying takes 1-2 days. It is important that the glue dries well and hardens.

When the product is completely dry and hard, carefully remove the balloon. To do this, it must be untied and blown off. If desired, simply pierce it with a needle.

To separate the deflated balloon from the threads, use a pencil with an eraser on the end.

It is necessary to take out the ball as carefully as possible so as not to damage the finished decoration. If the threads have shifted, then you can just gently move them into place.

Products from threads, glue and a balloon can be made in a simpler way. To do this, you need to wind a dry thread around the ball, and then grease its entire surface with glue using a brush. The advantage of this method is that you do not need to get your hands dirty in glue. But when working with a large ball, dry threads can constantly slip off. Therefore, if you are thinking about how to make a large ball of thread, it is better to use the “wet” method.

There is an original way of wrapping a ball with threads. The whole point is that you leave your hands clean. You will learn all this from the video:

Decoration methods

Of course, balls of threads are very beautiful in themselves. But if you stick beads, beads, feathers or ribbon bows on their surface, you will get real designer jewelry that will become a highlight in the design of a festive interior. For gluing decorative elements, you can use.

It is impossible to sew beads and beads to the surface of home-made balls - fragile products are quickly deformed from such manipulations.

You can think of how to decorate a ball of threads on your own, based on the available decorative elements, as well as your imagination. For example, to create the effect of snow, simply soak the surface of your balls with glue, and then roll them in semolina or powdered sugar. Then you can sprinkle the balls with glitter spray and send them to the Christmas tree.

Good afternoon - today we will make balls of thread ... such openwork spider web balls that can be hung like Christmas toys ... or use as LIGHT and LAMP SHADE... or from such filament balls-cocoons you can make Christmas garland... And such balls of thread can be even candlesticks or other home decor items.

You have seen such balls many times... But in THIS ARTICLE... I will show you the COMPLICATED versions of this technique.

So let's start in order...

  1. First I'll show you what's possible MAKE from such balls
  2. And then I'll tell HOW TO DO IT such a ball of thread with your own hands.

What can be done

with the help of BALLS FROM THREADS.

IDEA 1 - Christmas tree.

You can decorate the New Year's table with such balls ... if find a frame. FRAMEWORK will be splayed tree branch... wrap around such a branch with a Christmas tree LED garland and hang balls of thread on the branches.

IDEA 2 - Table compositions with fresh flowers.

It is possible in such openwork balls-cobwebs ... TO FROM THE TOP fit small vases. By the way, vases can be the same small transparent (or white) balls(similar not condoms) into which we collect a little bit of water ... dip the flower heads into them ... and the neck of such a ball is tied to the top of the ball… This is how we see it in the photo below.

It turns out a composition of balls of thread with flowers, which can be used to decorate a wedding ... or a New Year's table

Or you can put these balls in a slide in a flat vase... Pour water on the bottom of the vase ... and stick the stems of tall flowers that are not heavy (for example, gerberas) THROUGH THE BALLS - the balls will keep the flower stems in balance.

And it is important - if you have conceived such a composition with water ... then it is better to roll such a ball of thread NOT from simple threads ... but from metal- that is, from the wire. Because an ordinary thread ball will get wet and lose its shape.

IDEA 3 - threads from balls in SUSPENDED COMPOSITIONS to decorate the holiday.

You can attach such balls to the CHANDELIER - just over the dinner ball... and beautifully lower them so that the balls are at different heights. And it is better to use balls not of the same color - but of two shades that match in composition. Red + white, Green + blue, Gold + brown, etc.

Balls of the same thread color also look beautiful ... but DIFFERENT SIZE…and DIFFERENT DENSITY thread openwork.

That is, we will need to inflate balls of different sizes ... and when we wind our thread dipped in glue on the balls, we will wind it on one ball more and MORE... and on the other ball less and LESS(so that the holes remain).

Such a white composition is perfect for decorating a wedding - if the wedding is planned in the yard, that is, in nature - then such volumetric balls can be fixed on a tree branch.

IDEA 4 - BALLS from threads as table and ceiling lamps.

It is possible to make such filament balls-cocoons table lamps if you carefully insert a chain of incandescent bulbs into the balls ...

You can make one lamp - with one bulb socket. Here in the photo below we see an example of such a lamp made of a gossamer ball. Lamp holder stand Made from regular ICE CREAM STICKS.

You can take this chuck stand idea...or you can buy just a ready-made stand with lamp socket at the craft store... or buy a cheap lamp with a shade and remove the shade from it... and somehow decorate the stand so that it does not look like cheap China (for example, paste over with napkins using decoupage technique ... or overlay with a mosaic of glass pebbles).

Thread balls - can be used as hanging lamps for ceiling lamp. The interior looks beautiful as one plafond - and a whole series of multi-colored lamps (reminiscent of a Japanese-style interior).

This is how beautiful such a lampshade for a lamp can look - in the interior of the room. Bedrooms ... children's ... hallway.

Bulb sockets are sold with a cord ... Or you can buy everything separately and mount it with the hands of an electrician you know.

IDEA 5 - Christmas garland of LED chain and thread balls.

And you can also buy the most an ordinary garland with small LEDs- and make thread balls of different sizes and colors. We insert LEDs into such balls - so that they hold and do not jump out of the balls, it is better to fix them with tape or thread.

Such a garland may consist of airy balls of cocoons made of thin wire (as in the photo below). The sheen of the wire will additionally reflect and refract the light from the LEDs.

Or a garland can be made of THREADS balls - then the light of such a garland will be calm and softly diffused (as in the photo below).

These are the beautiful sparkling highlights we get on the wall from such a garland.

Can do ONE LARGE round ball-cocoon of nito to - and stretch a garland into it in a chaotic manner (so that the bulbs are evenly distributed over the entire surface of the ball) - we get a beautiful ball-lamp sparkling with several lights at once (left photo below)

Or can you do decorative GARLAND-SCREEN from thread balls and shiny glass pendants ... (as in the right photo below). A very beautiful and delicate screen-curtain is obtained - due to the fact that the balls are openwork and the airy screen does not look bulky, and the glass beads dilute and decorate the streamy surface of the curtain.

IDEA 6 - SNOWMAN from balls wrapped with threads.

You can also make crafts with your children to decorate the New Year - a snowman made of balls of thread. You need to make three balls of different sizes (plus you can also make small balls on your hands).

IDEA 6 - CANDLESTICKS from balls wrapped with threads.

Balls for candles make it bigger- so that the flame of the candle is away from the walls and top of the ball. And the ball itself must have LARGE HOLES (that is, NOT TIGHT winding) - through these holes, the heat of the candle will immediately disappear ... and the threads will not heat up.

Thread candlesticks can be made hanging (pictured below) ...

And there may be floor (or table)) - like here in the photo below. The bottom example illustrates what if the ball is made larger. Then you can make the cells between the threads smaller. And then, in order to put a candle there, you will need to cut it with scissors in a spider web ball hole on the side... or the hole could be at the bottom.(that is, we cut out the bottom ... we put a candle on the floor and cover it with a ball on top with the part where the hole is in the bottom).

By the way, instead of a candle, you can use a solar-powered garden lantern.

IDEA 7 - balls of thread for the Christmas tree.

And these balls are good to hang on the Christmas tree. Christmas balls are best made from small balloons. (that is, you need to buy small balls (garlands are made of these for a wedding) such balls are sold in hypermarket departments, where there is a shelf with decorations for a children's birthday.

Another thread itself immediately after winding the ball - while it is still wet and sticky from glue - sprinkle with glitter. Sequins can be obtained for free if you finely cut a Christmas tree fluffy garland.

HOW TO MAKE BALLS FROM THREADS -

three easy ways.

ESSENCE OF WORK to create a ball of threads, it looks like this ... We wrap a small balloon with a thread soaked in glue ... And when the glue cocoon of threads dries, we burst the ball, take out its fragments from the cocoon, and get an openwork ball of threads.

Adhesive solutions can be different:

  • You can - dilute WALLPAPER glue (starch-based paste) ... or dilute and boil starch yourself with water.

  • You can - use SILICATE glue (Soviet transparent for paper)

  • You can - use PVA GLUE - in its pure form ... or diluted - then water and sugar are added to it.

And the ways in which the work is done can be different:

METHOD FIRST - through the bottle.

For convenience, it is recommended to thread the needle ... use the needle to thread through the bottle with silicone glue (enlarge, open the hole so that the thread passes freely through the bottle) ... This way we get a “mini-device” for wetting the thread with glue without dirtying the table.

METHOD SECOND- put a skein of threads in a cup of glue - as in the left photo below ... if you do not want to spoil the whole ball (because it is too big) - then you can manually pass the thread through the bowl with glue (as in the right photo)

WITH WHAT STRETCH TO WIND THE THREAD.

The thread on the ball should not be wound very tightly - so that the ball does not shrink and is not compressed by the thread. Otherwise, we will get a crooked product.

HOW TO REMOVE THE BALL CORRECTLY.

The glue ball is best dried for 2-3 days. To make it fit properly. If you start removing the ball before it dries completely, you can get a wrinkled product.

Before bursting the ball, you need to make sure that it easily moves away from the walls of the filament cocoon. To do this, you can gently press the ball with the blunt end of the pencil THROUGH THE HOLES BETWEEN THE THREADS - in different sides of the ball - push the ball with a pencil so that it sticks everywhere from the walls of the cocoon.

After that, we burst the ball and pull out the bursting rag by the tail.

AND ALSO ... you can add a cocoon-cobweb LACE.

But this technique can be supplemented with elements knitted applique from the same threads... For example, you can make a piece of a knitted pattern in advance (as in the photo below) ...

For this, first crochet knit pattern element(this can be a pattern of any crochet napkin) ... a small element, only the first few rows of the pattern ... Glue this lacy knitted circle to the surface of the ball. Drying...

Then we shave the end of the glue thread - and put it in the NEEDLE. And with such a thread with a needle, we begin to carefully (so as not to pierce) wrap the ball, and pick up (along the winding) the edges of the lace appliqué ... and we get a cocoon into which a crocheted lace detail is sewn. Like in the photo below.

Or you can do it differently - EVEN EASIER TO DO

  • wrap the ball with thread ... dry ...
  • WITHOUT REMOVING the balloon with scissors, cut a round hole (the size is the size of your knitted appliqué) spread glue on this place on the balloon head ...
  • wet the knitted appliqué with glue and attach it to the ball (so that its edges touch the edges of the cobweb). When all this is dry, you can remove the ball.

Openwork BALLS made of wire.

By the same principle, balls-windings are made of wire. You just need to do it carefully so that the end of the wire does not crash into the ball and so that the wire itself does not cut the ball ..

Here are some ideas on how to make a ball of thread yourself. As you can see, everything is fast and simple. The whole process can be easily mastered even by a child.

Good luck with your crafts.

Happy New Year to the author of this article, Olga Klishevskaya.

If you love everything unusual and exciting, do not rush to buy decor items for your apartment. Try to create interesting designer jewelry with your own hands, and you will definitely surprise all your guests with your delicate taste, dexterity and craftsmanship. And be sure to get several orders for such creativity!

Balls of thread look very original. They can be hung from the ceiling, used as a floor lamp. To create such a thread ball yourself, you will need:
  • inflatable balls of small volume (up to 15 cm in diameter);
  • warp thread;
  • vaseline (normal cream, oil will do);
  • long needle with a wide eye;
  • glue (PVA, stationery colorless).
So, to begin with, inflate the balloon and tie its tail well. The ball can be round or elongated - whichever you prefer. Then smear the ball with Vaseline. This will later help to easily separate the thread ball from the inflatable one. Pierce the jar of glue through and through (preferably closer to the bottom). In principle, you can not spoil the jar, but pour some of the glue into any plastic container and pierce it already. If you are working with a thick thread, use PVA glue: it will hold the structure better. And for threads of medium thickness, ordinary clerical (colorless) glue is suitable. The diameter of the hole should be quite a bit wider than the thread you prepared to make the ball. Pass the thread through the needle and pass it through the jar of glue through the prepared hole (if the necessary needle is not found, twist the wire and make an eye for the thread). Wrap the ball with glued thread, and the thread should lie down neatly, each new skein as close as possible to the previous one. Leave a small hole between the wound threads (to remove the balloon from the inside). How to get it from there? Everything is very simple! Pop the balloon with a needle or untie the tail. Thanks to the Vaseline, it will easily detach from the threads, and you can get it. Only this should be done when the threads are completely dry - after about a day.

As for the thread, you can use both thick and thin. The latter will make neat weightless balls, very delicate and airy. But the jute cord can set the character of the interior, emphasize the overall style of the room. It produces textured products. Many decorative elements can be made from such thread balls. For example, it can act as a Christmas toy. The unique design of the New Year's beauty is guaranteed to you! In addition, you can build a lamp in this way - exclusive and quite inexpensive. In order for the process of creating balls of thread to give you only positive emotions, follow the useful recommendations:
  • buy balloons with a margin so that due to an accidental puncture or failure you do not have to run for a new batch;
  • if you plan to decorate the ball after it is made (decorate with various elements), the thread may be simpler; and if the product will not be additionally decorated, take a beautiful thread with overflows or sparkles, colored;
  • count on one medium ball for about one bottle of glue;
  • as for threads, about half a skein goes to one ball;
  • so that after work you do not have to wash the table for a long time, cover it with an ordinary oilcloth before starting work.

Children love to make thread balls. This lesson will help unite the family, bring parents and their children closer together, and the result will exceed all expectations. After all, not everyone can boast that he decorated the apartment with his own hands, and even in such an original way!
