Mk kanzashi topiary from flax. Topiary of roses made from satin ribbons using the kanzashi technique: step by step MK with photos and videos

Kanzashi is a Japanese handicraft technique that uses flowers, hairpins, and, most commonly, pieces of fabric folded into flower petals. A variety of decorative elements are created from these components. Kanzashi topiary is considered one of the most popular decorations.

The popularity of such crafts is due to their beauty, versatility (these creations will fit into any type of interior) and practicality (these trees of happiness can be made for yourself or for someone close as a gift). Since these crafts are in demand, this article will be devoted to how to make a kanzashi topiary with your own hands.

Create a tree from satin roses

To make kanzashi topiary from roses, you need to acquire the following "ingredients":

  • satin ribbons of pink or red color 5 cm wide;
  • ruler;
  • lighter;
  • tweezers;
  • glue gun;
  • well-sharpened scissors;
  • beads (white and red;;
  • flower pot;
  • foam ball;
  • paint that matches the color of the tapes used;
  • wooden stick;
  • thin white satin ribbon;
  • green sisal;
  • plaster.

When creating this masterpiece, the stage of preparing flowers is the most difficult. Therefore, it will be considered separately. So the job looks like this:

  • take the ribbon of the chosen color and cut it into squares with sides of 5 cm;
  • singe the edges of the cuts with a lighter;
  • after that, take one square and fold it diagonally to make a triangle;
  • glue the converged corners;
  • bend the corners of 45 degrees towards the ninety-degree end;
  • hold the connection area with tweezers, stepping back about 5 mm from the edge;
  • cut this edge with scissors;
  • prepare the required number of petals in the same way;
  • apply glue to the cut point, then tightly wrap the petal (after completing this action, you should get a bud, around which other petals will then be glued);
  • apply glue to the edge of the next petal, then wrap the first one in the second petal;
  • keep doing this until your flower is the size you want (as a rule, the flower should be 5 cm in diameter, although the exact value depends on the diameter of the styrofoam ball).

Remember! Having created the required number of flower blanks, you will complete the most difficult stage of work.

Of course, there are other ways in which you can make kanzashi flowers for topiary; The video below will help you master the available techniques.

After completing the work on the flowers, when you continue to make kanzashi topiary from satin ribbons, the master class will require you to follow these simple steps:

  • take a foam ball and paint it with a color that matches the shade of the flower blanks;
  • after the ball dries, make a small hole in its lower part (you can use scissors for this);
  • insert a wooden stick into this hole (for optimal fixation, treat the attachment point with glue);
  • then mix a gypsum mortar in a flower pot (it should have a creamy consistency) and insert a trunk with a crown into it;
  • after the foundation has hardened, start gluing satin flowers to the crown;
  • when the flowers are firmly grasped, glue one bead to them (try to alternate the colors of the beads);
  • then wrap the tree trunk and the pot itself with white satin ribbon;
  • close the plaster surface with sisal;
  • if you have flowers left, you can put them on top of the sisal too.

After completing the last step, you will finish making a kanzashi flower topiary. If desired, you can use satin ribbons of different colors. In addition, additional decorations (decorative fruits, pebbles, artificial ladybugs, etc.) can be used.

Making a sunflower tree

To make a kanzashi topiary sunflower, you need to have the following “ingredients” on hand:

  • satin ribbons of yellow and green colors (the width of such ribbons should be 5 cm);
  • wire of moderate thickness (you must first make sure that the selected wire bends well);
  • coffee beans;
  • decorative stones;
  • foam ball;
  • well-sharpened scissors;
  • glue gun;
  • flower pot;
  • light green satin fabric;
  • gypsum;
  • decorative stones;
  • artificial ladybug.

When you start making such a kanzashi topiary, the master class, first of all, will require you to create future petals and leaves. This work looks like this:

  • cut the yellow satin stripes into pieces 7 cm long (in total, you will need to prepare about 50 such pieces);
  • take one strip and fold in half lengthwise;
  • cut one end so that there is an acute angle;
  • turn the sharp ends inside out and glue them together;
  • as for the untouched part, its ends, on the contrary, are wrapped inward;
  • after twisting, these ends are also glued together;
  • the specified number of petals is created in a similar way;
  • then make future sheets from green ribbons, following the principle described above.

Subsequent work will be easier. But in order for you to completely understand how such a kanzashi topiary is put together, the photos will be located under each step taken. So, alternately carry out the following operations:

  • take a foam ball and make a hole in its lower central part (you can use scissors for this);
  • then glue half of the top of the ball with coffee beans (beans must be glued in two layers: first with a strip down, and then up); thanks to this approach, you will close the foam base;
  • then slightly bend the wire;
  • then connect it to the ball (be sure to treat the junction with glue);
  • then, right from the entry point of the barrel, start pasting the ball with yellow petals (when performing this operation, follow the checkerboard pattern);
  • after that, glue two layers of sheets under the petals;
  • then wrap the prepared pot in a green satin fabric (glue the edges of the fabric to the sides of the pot);
  • after that, knead the gypsum mortar in the pot;
  • insert a trunk with a crown into the container;
  • after the foundation has hardened, wrap the wire with a green satin ribbon (fix the ends of the ribbon with glue);
  • decorate the plaster surface with stones and place a ladybug on top of the stones.

That's all! The creation of the tree of happiness in the form of a sunflower is over. As you can see, there is nothing complicated about this. The main thing is to follow the instructions and have perseverance. Of course, there are a lot of other options by which you can create kanzashi topiary; a master class, video or photographic materials that are in the public domain will help you master all the intricacies of this craft.

Despite the fact that December has just begun, I already want a New Year's holiday. And what will create a New Year's mood better than a Christmas tree? Although, in recent years, New Year's topiaries have also become very popular. Such a small tree can be put on a festive table or decorate an office with it. In addition, the New Year's topiary will be a great souvenir!

We have already talked about what a topiary is and what are the basic principles for its manufacture. Today we’ll talk about what features the New Year’s topiary has.

Before you start making a topiary with your own hands, decide on its shape. The shape can be either round (traditional) or curly (for example, in the shape of a Christmas tree).

Christmas topiary ball

The principle of creating such a topiary is similar to the previous one, just instead of Christmas toys, you can use pine cones.

First, we glue cones to the base in the form of a ball, and then fill the gaps between the cones with various decorative elements (beads, bows, small Christmas balls). The main thing is not to overdo it with decoration.

If we take a cone and spruce or pine branches as a basis, then it will also turn out pretty nice:

Topiary from edible materials (nuts, sweets, tangerines)

"Mandarin" tree

It's no secret that tangerines are a favorite New Year's treat. Therefore, we will consider the process of creating a "tangerine" topiary in more detail.

Prepare the following materials:

  • tangerines
  • a skein of linen rope (can be bought at any garden and flower shop)
  • a flower pot from which our tree will actually grow
  • a beautiful branch or snag, strong enough to support the weight of tangerines
  • scissors and paper knife
  • piece of styrofoam or floral oasis
  • sprigs of spruce and mistletoe leaves for decoration
  • pieces of wire to strengthen the tangerines on the tree (a set of small hairpins will do)
  • artificial snow (it can be crushed polystyrene or anything else, the main thing is that it looks like snow)

We take our tangerines and wrap them with a rope crosswise. We strengthen the wire as shown in the photo:

We coat the branch lightly (so that the needles do not stick together) with PVA glue and dip it in the snow.

We cut out a cone from polystyrene foam or an oasis, which can easily fit into our pot in shape.

We proceed to the most difficult and responsible part. We strengthen the branch in the oasis so that it does not hang out. We begin to tie tangerines to one another, starting from the bottom. There will be fewer tangerines at the bottom, a little more in the middle, the same number at the top as at the bottom. Then we decorate all this charm with leaves and twigs.

Do-it-yourself New Year's topiary is ready! You can safely decorate the festive table with them.

Remember that tangerines are a perishable product, so it is better to make such a tree on the eve of the New Year. As a worthy alternative, you can use decorative tangerines - plastic or made from polymer clay.

Candy topiary

What do you think of the idea of a New Year's candy topiary?

The materials are the most standard: a foam ball, a stick for the trunk, a pot, a satin ribbon for decor, a foam cube, duct tape and 200-300 grams of candy.

Pay attention to how you can fix the barrel in a foam cube, as well as decorate it:

And also see how you can glue the foam ball with colored adhesive tape so that you do not need to additionally decorate the gaps between the candies:

The principle of creating a topiary is similar to those described above, but these 2 tips can be very useful to you.

It can decorate any holiday. To make such a tree take on a New Year's look, use appropriate decorations, for example, a Santa's cap:

Or make a Christmas tree-shaped coffee topiary:

Topiary made of sisal, fabric or felt

There are a lot of materials for creating a Christmas tree. For examples and patterns, you can refer to the article. Make a Christmas tree according to any of the methods and fix it in a pot. Topiary is ready.

If you are thinking about how to decorate the interior of an apartment or office, then the answer to your question will be a ribbon topiary. Under this mysterious name lies an artificial miniature tree strewn with flowers or bows. Do not forget that topiaries are considered to be crafts that will bring their owner a good mood, happiness and good luck, which is why you should not hesitate and immediately start doing it.

We also note that a topiary made of satin ribbons will be an appropriate gift for almost any celebration: for Valentine's Day, you can give a tree decorated with red hearts, a topiary with pastel-colored flowers will be a great gift for a wedding or the birth of a child, a tree with bright flowers and bows is perfect as a housewarming present.

So why not learn ribbon topiary how to do it, especially since on the needlework site you will find many master classes - a step-by-step description of manufacturing, as well as photos of each step, will help you create a real little masterpiece without errors from such a seemingly simple material as nylon or satin ribbons.

But, of course, except for satin or nylon ribbons topiary from ribbons master class will also require the presence of other materials. For a tree, you need a base - here you can dream up, for example, crumple a newspaper in the shape of a ball and wrap it with tape, buy a plastic ball in a children's store or a foam one in a floristry store. However, the base is not always a ball, for example, it can be made of cardboard in the shape of a heart or in the form of numbers, especially if the topiary is intended as a gift for a memorable date or birthday.

The "trunk of the tree" will also depend only on your imagination - it's up to you to decide whether it will be a stick, barbecue skewers put together, wire, or a corilus branch. Do not forget about a beautiful container in which the tree will “grow”, a stand for crafts, as evidenced by the topiary from satin ribbons in the photo, you should choose it for the interior - it can be an ordinary flower pot, a beautiful cup, an iron bucket decorated using a technique or painted with acrylic paint, a shell or an unusual flat stone. We must not forget about the decor of crafts, which can give it a "zest"

But, of course, flowers from ribbons for topiary will dominate - you will make them with your own hands. For example, you can make a rose topiary from ribbons - such topiaries always look very beautiful and romantic, or you can make other flowers, for example, daisies or daisies using the technique.

If you look at photo ribbon topiaries, you can see how diverse these can be - from tiny ones that can fit in the palm of your hand to quite large ones that can be placed in a corner and become a room decoration. And you can choose the master class you like on our website and start creating a miracle.

Creating a topiary from kanzashi flowers is a painstaking process, but not as complicated as it might seem to a beginner at first glance. Such a souvenir can be quickly made with your own hands, without having special needlework skills. The most important thing is to be patient, because you have to prepare a lot of miniature petals for your kanzashi topiary.

Flowers made of fabric, made in the technique of kanzashi, are borrowed by needlewomen for topiary from the ancient Japanese art of creating hair ornaments. Several centuries ago, oriental craftsmen came up with a way to create luxurious flowers, butterflies and other figures from miniature pieces of silk fabric, which were used to decorate combs, hairpins, hairpins of Japanese beauties.

At first glance, the kanzashi product seems extremely complex and difficult to complete. But upon closer acquaintance, it becomes clear that it is quite possible to learn the basic techniques of technology in a day.

The whole complex construction of the kanzashi topiary consists of many simple elements. And the whole secret is to stock up on Eastern patience and try to do the job carefully.

Kanzashi Flower Topiary: Tools and Materials

To make a kanzashi flower from ribbons, you will need a little more than a needle and scissors.

Be prepared to stock up on:

  • ruler;
  • Tweezers;
  • Candles or lighter;
  • Glue;
  • Sharp scissors;
  • Fine needles for sewing and pins;
  • Threads of different colors;
  • A set of multi-colored satin ribbons, organza or other suitable fabric;
  • Beads, rhinestones, sequins and other decorative elements.

Petals can be made not only from satin ribbons. Kanzashi-style artificial roses for topiary are also sewn from organza, silk, crepe satin. In the process, the edges of these fabrics tend to crumble, so they will have to be melted. It is for this that you need a source of fire - a lighter or a candle.

It is quite possible to replace the source of an open fire with another hot tool that is more convenient for you to work with. They can be a soldering iron, a wood burner or heated scissor blades.

Some types of kanzashi flowers are collected together with a thread and a needle. It is more convenient for others to glue the petals. Therefore, in advance you need to stock up with special glue for the fabric. By the way, it will also come in handy in order to then glue the flowers on the crown of the topiary.

Simple flowers for kanzashi topiary: a master class

To make sure that it is not difficult to make such a complex flower as a rose, you can use the example of a very simple MK.

Follow this sequence of work:

  1. The tape, the width of which is 5 cm, is cut into shreds 5x5 cm in size.
  2. We melt the edges of the cuts with a lighter or in another convenient way.
  3. We fold the resulting square blank diagonally and glue the converged corners.
  4. We bend the formed corners of 45 degrees to the glued 90-degree tip.
  5. We hold the junction with tweezers at a distance of about 5 mm from the edge.
  6. We cut off this edge with heated scissors so that it becomes sealed.
  7. Similarly, we prepare the required number of petals.
  8. We apply glue to the place of the cut and tightly fold the first petal - it will have the shape of a bud, around which the rest of the details will be glued.
  9. We apply glue to the edge of the next petal, then we wrap the already finished first one in it.
  10. The process continues until the result is the flower size that was originally intended.

To make a bud, 3-4 petals are enough. A small flower is enough for seven blanks. A fully blooming rose needs about 20 petals.

Kanzashi: sunflower on the crown of a topiary

Topiary with roses will perfectly fit into the interior of a bedroom or living room. Sunflower crafts are perfect for the kitchen.

For its implementation, the following work will be required:

  1. We cut a yellow or orange ribbon 5 cm wide into segments about 6-7 cm long. Such blanks will require 40-50 pieces.
  2. We fold each ribbon in half lengthwise and cut off on one side, achieving an acute angle. The ends are wrapped inside out and glued together. On the other hand, we wrap the corners of the even edge to the front side and also glue it.
  3. We glue the base ball of the crown with coffee beans (or buttons or large beads), which will imitate sunflower seeds.
  4. We glue the rod into the hole of the ball, which will become the stem of the future sunflower.
  5. From the junction of the ball with the rod in a checkerboard pattern, we begin to glue satin sunflower petals.
  6. We wrap the rod with green tape. If desired, green leaves made of satin fabric, made by analogy with petals, can be glued to it.
  7. We immerse the stem of the finished flower in a pot and fix it with plaster. Top with a layer of coffee beans.

The final touch of the composition is a decorative ladybug on a leaf, a butterfly on a flower, made using the kanzashi technique, or a snail planted in a pot. Such a topiary is a wonderful gift for kitchen decor for coffee lovers.

How to make a do-it-yourself topiary (video)

As you can see, the art of kanzashi is simpler than it might seem at first glance. With this technique, you can imitate almost any flower. And to make such a topiary, you will need the most common tools that will surely be found in every home of any needlewoman.

Kanzashi topiary (photo)

Topiary, also called the European tree of happiness, which can always be given for any holiday, is a modern and fashionable gift. Such a tree helps its owner in the fulfillment of desires and improves life and life. In our master class, we will tell you how to make a tree of roses using the kanzashi technique (photo below in the article).

Let's start our work with roses and then we will form our tree of happiness and fulfillment of desires from them.

For work we need:

Satin ribbons or canvas of the color you like;

Tweezers, glue, soldering iron or matches for firing protruding threads from a rose;

Ball (for pasting it with roses);

Thermal gun;

Capacity for planting a tree;

Thick wire for the barrel;

For decorating the container: crepe paper (for covering the container), organza, a circle of felt.

Roses from satin ribbons for topiary

We cut out the squares, their sizes depend on the size of the future rose. You can take the usual dimensions of five by five centimeters. To hold the squares, we use tweezers, cut off an unnecessary corner, take a soldering iron or matches and set fire to the threads that stick out. We make about seven such squares and begin to collect our rosette.

Wet the first petal with glue and fold. Then we moisten the second petal and wrap it around the previous one. And so we continue in a circle to glue the squares to the previous petal. The size of the flower depends on the squares glued in a circle: the more glued blanks, the larger the flower will be in the end.

Now that the main element of the tree is ready, we will start making the wish tree itself.

Making rose topiary

The number of flowers depends on the size of the ball that will be the base of the topiary, and on the size of the flowers. For example: for a ball with a diameter of nine centimeters, you will need about thirty-six roses with a size of four or five centimeters.

So that there are no voids between the roses, you need to decorate the base ball of the crown with the remnants of satin material. To do this, in a chaotic manner, we paste over the ball and begin to attach roses to it.

We fix the flowers with a thermal gun as tightly as possible to each other. It is more convenient to start applying glue from the inside and in the center of the rose. As soon as we paste over the entire base ball, we will begin to select and decorate the container for the tree.

Decorating a container for rose topiary

We drag the container with crepe paper, glue the organza on top, making it folds. We attach the organza to the bottom of the container from the inside and from above. Decorate with a ribbon. Glue a circle of felt on the bottom. And the last step will be gluing a satin bow on our pot.

For the topiary trunk, cut off two pieces of wire, first wrap it with thread and then with tape.

We drill a hole in the ball, stick the barrel into the ball and fix it with glue.

Topiary planting

Pour a solution of gypsum or alabaster into the container, stick the topiary there and wait for it to solidify. We breed PVA cay and white gouache and cover the solution on top (you can do without glue with gouache, and sprinkle soil from small pebbles on top).

A Few Ideas

Such topiaries can be made not only in the form of a ball, but also in the form of hearts, for example, for Valentine's Day or just a gift for loved ones, or numbers if it is a gift for anniversaries or birthdays. You can also make a wedding toppiary, now we will consider in more detail how to do this.

We will need:

tennis ball;

wooden stick;

Satin material in white and pink, silver or gold;

Golden or silver tulle;

Organza;

Sintepon or cotton wool;

Capacity where to plant a tree;

Alabaster.

Description of work

We drill a hole in the ball and insert a stick smeared with glue into it. Pour the solution into the container, insert the workpiece there and wait for it to harden. While it cools, make roses.

We fold the satin ribbon into a triangle, fold it and leave a small tail, it must be bent to the base and sewn up. We make the required number of roses. We sew pearl beads inside several roses, and sew a leaf of tulle to several roses. Fold the square into a triangle and sew at the base, then tighten.

Now let's start making balls. We cut out a square from silver or golden satin, fill it with padding polyester or cotton wool and wrap it with threads. We make about eleven balls. We glue the roses to the ball, and fill the voids with balls.

Next, decorate the container. We make holes on top of the container at an equal distance, stepping back two centimeters from the edge. Now we cut out a circle from silver fabric and put it on the container, fix it with golden or silver threads, passing them through the holes in the container. If desired, you can decorate the topiary with sequins.

Happy creativity!
