How to paint newspaper tubes with wood stain. Weaving from newspapers: decor (2)

Painting paper tubes before weaving

Greetings to all my readers! Today I want to expand on the topic. Earlier I wrote that you can paint tubes before and after weaving. Say what's the difference? This is not entirely true. I repeat: when we weave with ready-made dyed tubes, the product turns out to be more alive, you can vary and combine colors, make patterns. I use both methods, just depending on the idea and color scheme of the product.

So, we learned, made them automatically and in large quantities. Learned. Now you can vary the colors in the product, make our work more interesting. Let's paint the tubes in advance. But what to paint? How?

I used different methods and types of paints. The main task in the decoration of newspaper products is the painting of block letters. Sometimes you can leave it as it is, or you can paint over the letters with a saturated color and, if you want to get a white color, you can paint with water-based paint or. (In general, lately I have been weaving tubes not from newspapers, but from newsprint).

My samples for painting tubules for weaving

1. Can use:

* Iodine, brilliant green, potassium permanganate, iodinol. It's possible, but I don't recommend it. Colors are very pale or no result is obtained at all. For example, here's how the experiment went with iodinol (here I added a spoonful of PVA glue, for strength and color retention. In this case, this was optional):

The result is almost zero. Such a delicate lilac color fades as you would expect.

And here is the paint potassium permanganate:

There is a slight tint of old yellow paper. This can be used to get a light shade. It is applied unevenly, and potassium permanganate is now not so easy to find.

Painting green might be pretty decent. But you won't save her. In principle, of all pharmaceutical products, the shade gives: iodine, potassium permanganate and green .

* Food colorings. I tried it, you can get a good shade. It is best to paint white tubes, as the colors are desaturated. They also use onion peel, tea, herbs.

* Painting alcohol stain. Not bad, the color turned out more or less. Here are my samples:
! But! There are significant drawbacks when staining with alcohol stain:
~ tubules can break during weaving;
~ to be rigid and stubborn;
~ over time, change the color on the products;
~ have a persistent chemical smell.
So, alcohol stain is not the best solution for use at work.

* Painting with colors. I used to paint with them. But it is better to use them when coloring the finished product. For the most part, the tubes break during weaving, tear, become rigid. They need to be sprayed frequently before work begins. Therefore, colors are not the best option for painting. If you still decide and adapt, then paint with a cocktail of color + water + PVA glue or colorless varnish (1: 3: 1 or 1: 2: 0.5) so that your hands do not stain during weaving.
*A similar result is obtained after staining gouache. I used it for painting finished products mainly.

We are considering ways to dye tubes before weaving. And the above methods can be used when painting finished products.

2. I advise use :

* Painting with water stain, impregnation for wood. I'll show you some of the methods I've used recently.

All these methods gave good results. Impregnation also smells very, in question, and more expensive. So it's better to use water stain. It's cheaper, safer, and more enjoyable. It's good that the brush and hands can be washed with plain water, everything is washed off and the tubes do not stain hands after drying.

So let's take a closer look at water stain. How to paint step by step

Excellent result! pros:

* the tubes are painted evenly;

The demand for handmade souvenirs is constantly growing. Many choose various techniques for making such things as a hobby, a creative activity for the soul, and for some it also becomes a source of income. If you are interested in the method of making products from paper vines, but you do not know how and with what to dye newspaper tubes for weaving, read the tips and tricks. You are sure to find a suitable method and composition for yourself.

When to paint

If you decide to start making products from paper vines, then you need to learn not only weaving techniques, but also how and with what to paint newspaper tubes for weaving. If you are using colored newspaper or magazine sheets for curling, you can leave them undyed. After all, a wicker product will have an interesting surface even without it.

If ordinary black-and-white newspapers are used, the tubes are more often painted in the color of a natural vine (unskinned), that is, brown or light (as if the bark was removed from the branches).

There are several coloring options:

  • Before weaving.
  • After.
  • Combined method (applying the main color before and drawing the pattern already on the finished product).

Choose the method that is convenient for you and suitable for each specific product.

The better to paint newspaper tubes for weaving

In fact, there are a huge number of options. Almost any composition that has a color pigment is suitable, but the choice is determined by what shade you want to get and how saturated. Some compositions make the tubes hard after the paint layer dries, others - soft, but have lost their brightness, faded. Dyes can be used both water-based and alcohol-based, as well as powder, which are pre-diluted in a liquid. So the list of options is:

  • gouache;
  • watercolor (fading);
  • acrylic paints;
  • stain;
  • car paint from a spray can;
  • iodine solution;
  • brilliant green;
  • for clothes;
  • ink;
  • ink;
  • hair dye.

If the blanks themselves are supposed to be dyed before weaving, they usually use a stain that interacts well with paper and, after drying, gives a beautiful brown tint. To increase saturation, you can apply the dye in several layers with preliminary drying of the previous layer.

If you decide to first weave the product, and then process it, use acrylic colors or gouache. They are sold in sets, so they are suitable for making a complex pattern on a surface or a vase. You can draw an ornament, floral motifs or any other pattern.

It is worth considering that when using any of the proposed options, newspaper tubes must be varnished so that the product becomes more dense and resistant to moisture. It is better to process the finished basket, as the varnish layer will make the paper stiff and not very comfortable for weaving.

What not to paint

How to paint newspaper tubes for you can choose from the list above, but it is worth noting that watercolor loses its brightness very much after drying. Dyes from onion peels, which are used to color Easter eggs, will definitely not work. If you are a fan of natural materials, do not use chemical products, such as hair dye.

How to paint newspaper tubes for weaving white

If you like exclusive things and want to make a wicker product in order to apply a pattern on it later, for example, floral motifs, it is better to immediately prepare tubes from thin white paper, office tape or even a cash register tape.

Most likely, you have already decided how and with what to paint newspaper tubes for weaving in various shades. The same paints, where there is a white color in the palette, can be used to obtain white blanks. Acrylic paint or primer, water-based emulsion and even gouache are suitable, if you take it in a fairly thick creamy consistency.

Coloring accessories

When you have decided what composition you will cover the workpieces with, the question may arise how to paint newspaper tubes for weaving, that is, with what tool. You can use the following options:

  • wide brush;
  • sponge (sponge);
  • a high container in which the pigment solution is poured.

Choose the most convenient option for you.

Coloring technology

When using the first and second tools, the work goes like this:

  1. Prepare the composition in any container.
  2. Lay the tubes in one layer on the oilcloth.
  3. Put on gloves and pick up a brush.
  4. Dip in the composition and apply to the tubes.
  5. Let one side dry.
  6. Turn over.
  7. Repeat the process on all sides.

You can paint and dry the tubes immediately in an upright position if you fix them in a solid base (for example, with clothespins along the edges of a jar, glass).

If the coloring will be done by dipping into the coloring composition, it is better to make a special container from a bottle, or even better - from a plastic pipe of a suitable length, attaching a hermetically sealed bottom. Pour the composition into such a container, lower the tubes. Do not forget to top up the solution, as it will be consumed and the level will drop (unpainted areas may remain).

So, you have learned how to paint newspaper tubes for weaving. Choose your favorite composition and staining method. Create spectacular souvenirs with your own hands.

Newspaper is an excellent and affordable material for creating crafts.. From newspaper tubes you can make baskets, wickerwork, handbags, rugs, plates, panels and much more useful.

Any family can find a regular newspaper, but instead of throwing away the newspaper, roll tubes out of it that you can paint and make whatever your heart desires out of them.

How to make newspaper tubes?

Before you decide how to paint newspaper tubes, you need to learn how to make them.

  3. Spoke.
  4. PVA glue.

Instructions for making newspaper tubes

  • Fold the newspaper in half lengthwise.
  • Cut the newspaper at the fold.
  • Bend the resulting strips and cut again. From one newspaper sheet, 4 strips are obtained.
  • Take a knitting needle, attach it to the corner of the newspaper strip at an angle of 30 degrees and twist the strip into a tube with rotational movements. Hold the edge of the newspaper while rolling.
  • On half of the tube, remove the knitting needle, tighten it, and glue the PVA on the edge. The newspaper tube is ready.
  • Apply primer to the newspaper tube and wait for it to dry.
  • Make as many tubes as you need in this way.

What is the best way to paint newspaper tubes?

  • Stain or stain. This is a water-soluble dye that is used to paint wood and paper products. After dyeing, the products are purchased rich dark chocolate color. To achieve the best effect, the horizontal surface is painted with a stain, first along, and then across. In conclusion, the stain is again applied along. On a vertical surface, the stain is applied from the bottom up.
  • An alcohol-based stain is often used, but it can leave streaks. To prevent this from happening, you need to slightly moisten the newspaper tube with warm water, after which it will be possible to start staining. In addition to stain, you can use any synthetic dyes for wool, fur, woolen and paper fabrics.

  • Acrylic paints. You can use acrylic paints of any color for coloring newspaper tubes. To give the newspaper tubes an aesthetically finished look, water-based acrylic paints are ideal. Acrylic paint is easy to use - it is soft, colorful and gives the tubes a beautiful glossy shade. To obtain the desired consistency, acrylic paints are diluted with water. After application, the product should dry for about half an hour.
  • Watercolor paints- they are not too bright and transparent, so they need to be heavily diluted with water. In addition to multi-colored watercolors, gold, bronze or silver watercolors are suitable.

  • Gouache- excellent value for money. Gouache can be bought at any stationery store. If necessary, you can buy artistic gouache, only it is somewhat more expensive than usual. Before staining newspaper tubes, gouache is diluted with water to the state of liquid sour cream. The main colors of gouache, like other paints, are red, yellow, green, white, blue, black. For other shades, mix the primary colors. To get orange, mix yellow with red; to get purple - red with blue; pink - white with red, etc. If you add a little white paint, you get a delicate shade. To get brown shades, add black paint to the main colors.
  • Food coloring, brilliant green, iodine and even hair dye suitable for dyeing newspaper tubes. After staining, be sure to dry the tubes in the sun or in the oven. Newspaper tubes can be painted with a foam sponge or brush.
  • For painting the finished product from newspaper tubes, you can use car paint in a can.

  • Colored newspaper tubes are recommended to be coated clear varnish preferably in several layers. Lacquer coating will make the product more durable and durable, it will not be afraid of water. The product covered with a varnish will please your eye for a long time.

You can paint newspaper tubes with almost anything., only before painting, dyes are diluted with water.

Products from newspaper tubes look beautiful and interesting. Therefore, if you do not know what to do with yourself in your free time, do not waste it, but start making original products. Just don't forget to paint the newspaper tubes to make the crafts look bright and fresh!

At the moment, crafts from newspaper tubes have become very popular. All needlewomen want their crafts to be bright and unique, but not everyone knows how to paint newspaper tubes and how to do it right. Painting does not take much time, but weaving from painted ones is more interesting and exciting. Absolutely everyone can paint the tubes: iodine, gouache, food coloring, stain, varnish, greenery. But today we will talk about the best and most effective way to paint newspaper tubes with wood stain.

For work you will need:

- Newspapers or newspaper tubes;
- stain;
- Thick brush;
- Latex gloves;
- Garbage bags;
- Oilcloth.

Let's get to work:

First you need tubes. The bigger, the better. If you don't have one yet, then don't waste time, get to work and continue reading the article.

Next, prepare a place for painting. It depends on what stain you have. If the stain is alcohol, then it is best to paint in an open area, since the smell is unpleasant and harsh, it can be dangerous for sick people and children. If you have a water-based stain, then you can safely paint newspaper blanks in the house. It is best to paint on the table, having previously covered it with oilcloth. Let's start coloring. Pour some stain into the jar.

We put on rubber gloves. We place the products on the table, not in a very thick layer and paint on one side.

Then flip over and paint on the other side. We debug the painted tubes to the side and paint the rest.

Now you need to leave them to dry. You can lay out homemade products on the floor by the fireplace, put them in the oven over low heat, but the best way is to put them on a linen hanger.

They will not interfere with you during drying and they can be easily turned over. After four hours, the products should dry.

Now it is important to wrap them in garbage bags and send them to be stored in a humid room. So they will retain color and be more plastic.

Now you can weave crafts from them, combining colors with each other, creating unique masterpieces.

Progress

Hello! Now that we have learned how to twist paper tubes, it's time to talk about coloring tubes. You can, of course, paint finished products, but in this case there are “non-paintings” between the tubes, no matter how hard we try. Therefore, it is better to first paint the tubes, then weave.
You can use water-based stains, painting in wood colors, I often use maple, mocha, oak, rosewood stains. Experienced and listening to the advice of experienced weavers, I began to make the composition for coloring in this way: water, stain or color, acrylic varnish. Instead of water, you can use an acrylic primer (it is easier to weave with such tubes later), but it is white, you will need more paint or stain. I foresee the question: what are the proportions? For 100 grams of color water 1-2 tbsp. spoons, the same amount of acrylic varnish. If you need to paint under a tree, then dilute the stain with water to the desired color intensity and again add varnish. Varnish is needed so that the tubes do not get your hands dirty and everything around. At first we did it without varnish, color and water, we had to weave in disposable gloves.
It would not be superfluous to say that fresh tubes bloom during painting, so first we twist the tubes and put them aside. You can paint the next day.

Let's get started. If there is an apron and sleeves that you don’t mind, then put it on. Or an old coat. Be careful with colors!

1. We spread oilcloth and film (I use garbage bags, cut off the bottom and spread it twice, then it’s not a pity to throw it away). We lay out the tubes in one layer, 20 pieces. We put on gloves.

Holding the tubes with your left hand, paint from left to right, then the upper part of the tubes. We roll the tubes a little forward, opening the unpainted places, until we paint everything, lift it up and let the excess paint drain.

2. Preparation of a place for drying is done in advance. I dry on an old cracker, covering with a film. I use large plastic bags from the store after sweets and cookies. We lay it out so that the tubes do not touch each other, during drying we scroll with our gloved hands. Can be dried simply on the bag. To do this, first lay the tubes horizontally at a distance from each other, then vertically so that the tubes lie on them without touching each other.

If during the coloring the color did not seem the way it should be, add color to make it brighter, or a primer if you need to make it lighter.

3. Let's talk a little about painting finished products. For the basket, I took a maple water stain with varnish.

The sequence of staining: the inside of the product, the outside, then the bottom, lastly the handle.

All our shortcomings, as they say, are obvious. We see "non-paints", where the brush did not get it, the places where the tubes are glued together. If we weave from colored tubes, then such places can be cut off or the tubes can be connected behind the racks, then the place of gluing will not be visible.

After complete drying, for the rigidity of the product, we impregnate it with PVA glue, diluted in half with water, leave the product to dry. They become like wood. Then we cover with varnish, the sequence is the same as when painting the finished product. Do not try to "spill" the product the first time! The varnish will drain onto the film, it is necessary to change the place of drying or wipe off excess varnish. You can apply several layers of varnish, but a day after the previous one, although after an hour the product can be touched. If the varnish is thick, you can dilute it with water.

Tips for beginners: A great option (and the most common) is acrylic paint. But if you want to use natural dyes in your business, you can take a solution of iodine with water, a saturated solution of potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate), as well as brilliant green diluted with water. Gouache paint adheres well to newspaper tubes.

I wish you all happy painting!
