Recently, there have been legislative proposals to make December 31 an official holiday and a non-working day. At the same time, some people's deputies come up with an initiative to shorten the winter holidays. Considering that citizens already have too much rest, and protracted holidays negatively affect the country's economy. But, according to statistics, in terms of the number of working hours, the employed Russian population is ahead of most Europeans. At the same time, 71% of the country's residents have a negative attitude towards the abolition of long winter holidays. So far, such a radical measure is not supported in the State Duma.

Transfer Information
Given that December 31, 2018 is Monday, the government has already taken care of planning the New Year holidays in 2019, taking into account the interests of Russians and creating conditions for a good rest. In the adopted project on the transfer on Saturday (December 29), workers will need to go to work, but Monday will be a day off. In addition, at most enterprises, the last working day of the year is unofficially shortened. It turns out that the winter holidays will begin on Sunday and, most likely, will last until January 8, inclusive.
Two days off, released on January 5 and 6 (Saturday and Sunday, respectively), Russians are offered to take a day off on May holidays 05/03/19 and 05/04/19, having received as many as 5 days off in a row.

When is the first working day
The work week in 2019 is likely to start on January 9th. But it will be short - only 3 days, which will make it easier to get involved in the work process. The old New Year, beloved in many Russian homes, will come on the night of January 13-14, the Orthodox - Epiphany falls on January 19, and the young part of the population on the 25th will celebrate the students' holiday - Tatyana's Day.

Saturday, December 29, 2018 will be a working day for Russians. But it is transferred as a day off to Monday, December 31.
January 5 and 6, 2019 fall on Saturday and Sunday (and these days are always included in the annual New Year holidays), which means it is postponed. And the transfer "flies away" on the May holidays - on May 2 and 3, respectively.

Rescheduling holidays in January
For a more rational use of time, the supreme authorities made the following decision: due to the fact that January 6 falls on Saturday (and according to the law this day belongs to the New Year holidays and is considered non-working), it is postponed to March 9. The postponement of weekends and holidays described above will not be the only one for January 2018. Due to the fact that January 7 - Christmas, is included in and falls on a calendar day off - Sunday, there will be another shift in the production calendar. In this case, the day off on January 7th is moved to May 2nd.
The question may arise: how such movements are legalized holiday dates in the production calendar? The answer can be found by referring to the legislation of the Russian Federation, which says that in the case when Public Holiday falls on a calendar holiday (that is, Saturday or Sunday), it is automatically transferred to the nearby Monday or other convenient date. From the point of view of labor legislation, the only difference between the last day of the year and all the others is that it is a pre-holiday day. If December 31st falls on a weekday, the work shift must be reduced by one hour. In general, when it comes to an 8-hour work day, workers should be allowed to go home after seven hours of work.

January 5 and 6 fall in the new year on Saturday and Sunday. In such cases, the weekend does not expire, and the government transfers them to other working days. In January, we will have enough rest, but in May these reserve days in 2019 will come in handy. Due to the postponement of two days off from January and one from February, in May 2019 we will have almost the same long vacation as right after the new year.
